ROMNEY BOOED FOR SUGGESTING HE WOULD REPEAL OBAMACARE DURING NAACP SPEECH | With House Republicans planning to vote on the repeal of the Affordable Care Act for the 31st time today, the party’s presidential candidate was booed loudly for suggesting he would repeal the law if elected. Speaking at the NAACP conference in Houston, Texas, Mitt Romney asserted that he would repeal “wasteful” programs that don’t promote job growth. “Including Obamacare,” Romney said, to a resounding chorus of boos from the crowd.

This is for teabgger and bigot consumption. Every time they boo it's a good thing for Mitt. He's probably wondering if he should say he'll bring back slavery.

"Hey, look ... I'm really serious about this conservative stuff, so much so that I'm going to get these black people to boo me for sticking to my guns."

Extra brownie points with this crowd for getting black people to boo you.

21. He was ready for the jeers.

It was planned -- it absolutely fits right into the Rmoney campaign strategy.

He'll be a hero know to every bigot in that nation -- because he "walked into the lions den" and "told them the truth."

Rmoney's is a very cynical campaign ... and say what you want here at DU, but polls show this to be a virtually tied race in national polls; it is close even in swing states.

I still think folks here are much too sanguine about Pres. Obama's reelection chances -- I think it is the Rmoney/Rove strategy to make this all very nasty, very dirty and discourage marginal Democratic voters from even voting at all.

Last edited Wed Jul 11, 2012, 12:52 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

Now Romney's campaign has video footage of him smiling, looking "presidential" and shaking hands with some black folks. That's all they wanted out of this -- that, and the negative reactions from the audience -- which the rednecks and hicks are going to just love. When they are done cutting and splicing, they'll have at least a 30-second campaign ad video for "independent voter" consumption that fully demonstrates Romney's popularity with and concern for black Americans. It will be just another Big Lie from Romney of course, but what the heck, lies and more lies have brought him this far, why stop now?

...as more stories like this great one on DU today ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/1002930102 )
bubble to the surface, hopefully more independents (and/or voters who have family members/friends actually Helped by the ACA) will be prone to pull the lever for Obama. I'm hopin', anyway.

You go to make a speech in front of the NAACP hoping to get their support and you tell them this??
It's one thing to say you have a better plan and explain it, but not to offer anything better and attack the one that the NAACP supports? What a dumb move! I hope they play this on several media fronts

up for sound bites of the boos and Romney set them up for sound bites of Democratic playing of the race card and rudeness. So now when Obama gets boo'd anywhere, it's not racism any more but just quid pro quo.

Also, either the sound recording was really bad, only 50 people are attending the NAACP this year or they were as excited as someone watching paint dry. We will find out tomorrow when Biden speaks.

He absolutely knew that he would be booed. He was casting the Blacks as supporting more handouts. Little different than Reagan's "welfare queens driving Cadillacs. He is nothing more than a dirty bastard. The stupid working class that supports the Outsourcer in Chief are digging their own graves. I won't have an ounce of sympathy when they are standing in the bread lines, but I will feel crushed to see loyal Democrats suffer because of these idiots' racial hatred that has completely vaporized their brains.

The more I'm seeing of this speech, the more surprised I am that he wasn't ridden out on a rail and dumped into the nearest river. This was a "torches and pitchfork" moment. On top of his "trust me, I know what's best for black families, and you don't" moment?

If he hoped to win blacks over to the GOP with this, well... Even Alan Keyes is probably going "what the fuck?" right now.

Our credibility drops drastically when we continue to accuse Romney of being too rich and out of touch. They both are! Obama's net worth is in excess of $5mm. He still owns a 6,200 sq ft home with 6 bathrooms. Can he really relate to middle America any better than Romney?

You are right. At least the other two had sense enough to KNOW when they said something stupid or made a gaffe when it was pointed out to them.

Romney just either makes up another lie (like the one that African American leaders "secretly" support him but can't say so in public) or says something further that is twice as ridiculous as the original gaffe. "I don't know what I said, but I stand by it!".

LMAO.

"I believe that if you understood who I truly am in my heart,
and if it were possible to fully communicate what I believe is in the real,
enduring best interest of African American families,
you would vote for me for president."

He probably thinks he has put out the Welcome sign in front of the "Romney Plantation".

He trying to make up for the conflicts with the NAACP as Governor.

Nice try dumb ass.

57. British take on Mitt being booed - from the BBC - Romney jeered over healthcare in NAACP speech

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has been booed in a speech to a US civil rights group.

He was jeered as he vowed to "kill" the Obama healthcare overhaul, and when he said he would be a better president for African Americans.

"I will kill every expensive and unnecessary programme I can find, and that includes Obamacare," Mr Romney told the annual convention in Houston, Texas, pausing with a smile as he waited for the catcalls to fade.

But jeers resumed as Mr Romney said: "If you want a president who will make things better in the African-American community, you are looking at him. You take a look."

59. And he's smiling?!

"I made the black people boo me!"

A true sign of honor among racists.

61. OMg.. that is priceless... And the dolt actually cites the "US Chamber?"

they have been in the bag for the republicans forever, and seem to do nothing but pour billions into their coffers.

The look on his face.. omg... smiling peeing his pants.. reminds me SO much of Bush to hear him speak. He is SO out of his league, how di that guy ever win a Governorship???

63. Why is this weirdo smiling?

He memorized the speech, knew the crowd wasn't friendly, and should have known the moment would be difficult.

Don't you think he should have a better mask ready for that moment?

Grim, but sympathetic?

Resolute, but fatherly?

Falsely shocked that they would disagree?

Any of those faces would be more appropriate, but the weird little smile on Romney's mug reminds me of a kid pulling the wings off of a butterfly, unsure of why he can't stop, or why he's got that tingle in his leg.

64. He's hoping to attract hard-core conservatives

through getting booed at an NAACP convention. Conservatives hate the NAACP.

he's fucked. No other way to say it...

I think Maddow is right. I think there's going to be a challenge at the GOP convention from RoPaul's crew. I think Paul may be aiming for the VP slot.
