Syria conflict: Rebel force targets IS 'capital' Raqqa

Source: BBC

A US-backed Kurdish and Arab force says it has begun an operation to capture Raqqa, so-called Islamic State's "capital" in Syria.

The Syria Democratic Forces (SDF) will be aided by US-led coalition air strikes.

They have also warned civilians to steer clear of areas where IS militants are present.

The coalition of Kurdish and ethnic Arab militias has been gaining ground in areas to the north of the city.

Syria: US-backed forces launch bid to seize ISIS 'capital' Raqqa

(CNN)
US-backed militia groups in Syria said Sunday they had launched an operation to seize ISIS' de facto capital, Raqqa.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said in a statement they had established a joint operations center Saturday night for the military campaign "Euphrates Rage," which includes multiple Arab, Kurdish and Turkmen militia groups and will be carried out "in coordination with international forces."

The operation was announced just days after Iraqi forces entered the city of Mosul, where they are now in a fierce battle with ISIS militants.

"We are starting an operation to liberate Raqqa from ISIS... the operation will be done with American aerial cover," Brig. Gen. Talal Ali Selo, the spokesman for the SDF, told CNN Sunday.

Assaad to the east and ISIS along the Turkish border.

Strange the BBC is using those words.

The "rebel" who are also backed by Trukey (And the Kingdoms in the middle east) are somewhat at odds with the Kurds.
And Turkey plain hates them.
