John McCain: Republicans will block anyone Clinton names to the Supreme Court

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by George II (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Think Progress

Almost immediately after news of Justice Antonin Scalia’s death broke, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) proclaimed that “this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new President.” And, with rare exception, this has been the Senate GOP’s message since Scalia’s seat became vacant — let the election happen first, and whoever wins that election gets to pick the next justice.

Nevertheless, in a Monday interview with a Philadelphia radio host, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) admitted that Republicans will continue to block anyone the next president nominates to the Supreme Court — at least if that president is Hillary Clinton.

“I promise you that we will be united against any Supreme Court nominee that Hillary Clinton, if she were president, would put up.”

“The strongest argument I can make” for why Pennsylvania voters should reelect Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, is that a Republican Senate can “ensure that there is not three places on the United States Supreme Court that will change this country for decades.”

But they'll, of course, get a pass - as always.

Were these Democrats threatening a Republican president, you can bet the farm that it would be 'reported' on 24/7 and Democrats shamed. That rule does not apply to Republicans and never has.

I just finished broadcasting a plea for Arizona voters to reject, vote NO on all judical appointees under the Jan Brewer administration. She dissed our President and she supports the rump.

If you wish to share this with any Arizona voters, please do so.

He shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, judges of the Supreme Court, and all other officers of the United States, whose appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by law: but the Congress may by law vest the appointment of such inferior officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the courts of law, or in the heads of departments.

In 2008 I was told by someone who worked with congressional Republicans that if Hillary Clinton won the Democratic nomination and went on the win the general election everything she put forward would be blocked. That person said that if Barack Obama was elected there was a slight chance some of his ideas would be allowed to pass. So, this was in the works since 2008 and could extend to far more than just her choices for Supreme Court. Unless the Democrats gain control of Congress, Hillary Clinton's time in office could be worse than President Obama's time in office. It is possible we have not seen true gridlock.

And thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court we the public cannot file a lawsuit against the government, when it comes to these kind of shenanigans.

In fact we the public are being left further behind because of the "rules" that the U.S. Supreme Court chief justice and the Congress, and Senate have made for themselves for the last 45 years of right wing BS, we have no "due process".

http://prospect.org/article/new-era-supreme-court

Hey McCain, since you should be voted out of office, and for being an enabler of a do nothing Congress and Senate, did you by chance just recently come out and say that you don't support or do support the dumpster, you flip flop just as much as the megalomaniac, that I am wondering if you are fit and have the temperate to be a senator, doesn't look like it.

Your party apparatchik have been trying to have it both ways with your nominee, you are offended by what he has done, but then you and your party turn around and say that you will vote for him anyway.

You say then, that you support a racist, bigot serial predator, or you think it just fine to threaten the will of the people if they vote in a democrat, to hell with the voter or all of the above.

If so you have no Principles------------------none, zilch, nada.

You think and your republican right wingers think, that your empire is more important than the country or the Constitution, so your going to deny the will of the election.
If you think that way and apparently you do, you really need to be voted out of office, right along with others in your party

So, my question there Johnnie, so if the dumpster get elected you will do exactly what, rubber stamp whoever he nominates, but if it's a democrat you will not even hold a vote--------------really, so you continue with your double standard of hypocrisy that emanates from your right wing republican party platform and mouth. And you think its just fine to commit to treason.

Didn't you at one time swear on a bible to uphold the Constitution, did you have one hand behind your back with your fingers crossed

I think its time to have a liberal U.S. Supreme Court, 80 years of having conservatives on the bench have really turned the country into a third rate state because of conservatives being on the bench, look no further than the gutting of the Voting Right Act by John Roberts, and the enabling by this current right wing court when they had the majority, when it came to the public asking for redress from corporations, and being denied for "class action status", and attacking labor unions
