To resounding applause Monday, the West York, Pa., town council voted to accept Charles Waskos offer to resign as mayor, following a controversy about his posting of offensive and racist memes and messages to his personal Facebook page.
One post on his personal Facebook depicted several orangutans sitting in a wheelbarrow with the accompanying text, Aww .?.?. moving day at the Whitehouse has finally arrived.
Another showed Clint Eastwood with a noose, a shot from the film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Its caption read, Barry, this rope is for you. You wanna bring that empty chair over here.
West York is a borough outside of York with a population of about 4,500. Waskos constituents vigorously called for the white, Republican mayors resignation after the posts, but found nothing in state law that allowed the borough council or a court to remove the mayor from office.

now, 2012, 2008 is that finally we have our racist(s) white superiority sewer overflowing it's hate and virulent ignorance problem while laying bare to all who are concerned a problem that must be fixed without any caveats or equivocation. Also our mysogyny, homophobia, sexist male superiority fallacies have been exposed to our scrutiny TO BE FIXED by US.
To me the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan should have put to rest any inkling of racism and sexism in our general public of citizens. Soldiers who happen to be women, AA, Muslim, gay, Hispanic service people along with the white male DIED while fighting for their lives in both countries serving our country. Doesn't that prove equality among all american citizens? It does to me.
I do understand the politics of these incursions in foriegn lands and I AM NOT talking politics, just the reality of being in the military service of our country, I am only pointing to the KIA's and WIA's from those places. No politics, just people who for various reasons, usually economic, found themselves 'in harms way' at the behest of our CIC.
Can we in good conscience put a man like the RW candidate in an office where he would be making decisions affecting millions of OUR service people? Or at least make sure that his racist followers are made to understand that this is a country that is diverse and we are all americans with equal rights. None better, none able to claim some type of fallacy to superior being. Just woke up with this on my mind.

Pennsylvania town's mayor quits after racist anti-Obama posts
The mayor of a small Pennsylvania town is resigning after sparking outrage by posting images on his Facebook page comparing President Barack Obama and his family to apes and referencing a noose.
The council of the borough of West York, located about 100 miles (160 km) west of Philadelphia, voted unanimously on Monday to accept Mayor Charles Wasko's offer to step down, council President Shawn Mauck said.
Wasko's resignation will become effective on Oct. 21, and Mauck will fill out the rest of the mayor's term, which runs until Dec. 31, 2017, Mauck said in a telephone interview on Tuesday.
Wasko could not immediately be reached for comment.
