Trump Super PAC Strategist Says There Is An ‘Otherness’ To Obama

Source: Huffington Post

Donald Trump super PAC strategist Alex Castellanos said Sunday that there is an “otherness” to President Barack Obama, adding fuel to the conspiracy theory that the president is somehow not American.

After blaming Hillary Clinton for starting conspiracy theories that Obama was not born in the U.S., Castellanos himself questioned Obama’s allegiance to the country, furthering a narrative on the right that the president is exotic.

“I think the big question about Obama is not where he was born or his faith. The big question about Obama has been...has he considered himself more of a globalist than an American?” Castellanos said. “There is an otherness to this president.”

* * *
But accusations by Trump’s campaign that Clinton started spreading questions about Obama’s citizenship have time and time again been proven false. Trump has fueled the conversation for more than five years. As recently as Wednesday, Trump refused to say whether he believed Obama was born in the U.S., saying he’d do so when it was convenient for him.

I guess Hillary Clinton apparently has mind control in that she is the one causing Republicans to promote birther theories. Also, because it is Hillary Clinton, you just make the accusation and it presumed true until she affirmatively disproves it.

reinvent birtherism. We all knew it would never be over. So now its, "He may have been born in America, but he doesn't act like it." They have to keep placating their racist base.

Back in 2012, John Sununu made a lot of similar remarks about Obama:

“The men and women all over America who have worked hard to build these businesses, their businesses, from the ground up is how our economy became the envy of the world. It is the American way. And I wish this president would learn how to be an American.” [Conference call, 7/17/2012]

Newt Gingrich also said things like that, reinforcing birtherism without actually saying Obama wasn't an American.

"What if he [Obama] is so outside our comprehension, that only if you understand Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior, can you begin to piece together (his actions)?" (2010)

Don't even have to say anything about a birth certificate.

Judging from his outrageous statements over the last six months that swing from one reality to another, I would say there is more than one personality that exists in Trumps body. Are his statements today made from the same personality that was talking yesterday, or is it some otherness?

I can't think of a single individual, in my family, among friends and co-workers, that fully conforms to some ideal american norm. The more you look, the more you see, and people are naturally multi-faceted and interesting. I wouldn't want it any other way, though wanting it some way or other in no way would affect the reality of us. Do people want or imagine a star-spangled cardboard cutout president?
