Obama declares emergency in W.Va. due to outages

Source: AP

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — President Barack Obama issued an emergency declaration for West Virginia on Saturday following violent storms that downed trees and power lines across the state, leaving more than 680,000 without electricity as temperatures in the 90s continued.

The emergency declaration authorizes the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide help and coordinate relief efforts.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin declared a state of emergency early Saturday morning after the storms swept across the state Friday night.

Tomblin said 53 of the state's 55 counties had outages, the most extensive in recent history.

1. It could take a week or more to restore power to everyone.

It's good that they will be receiving some federal help. It is going to be a long hot week in WV.

3. All of my family near Charleston is w/o power

Some don't have water, either. Nearly 70 percent of the state is dark. Gas stations are closed nearly everywhere, and the few that remain open have waits up to an hour. Ditto on groceries. And ice is in short supply.
Hotels are booked up all the way into central Ky.
I'm doing a supply run there tomorrow to take a few things from my part of the state, which got off easy and is still functioning.

2. WHAT??????

You mean he wasn't eating cake with John McCain and chuckling and playing a guitar? Ignoring the misery of the masses? What's the matter with that guy?

Clearly the man doesn't understand that a President must remain aloof and above the fray!

Let me whip this out because the odd few will not get my point, otherwise.

6. Those were some of the most photoshopped pics of that year, as I remember!

They became the posters, with W as the poster boy, for "Don't Give A Shit!"

But nooooooo, they fucking don't care = GODLESS GOPs

12. Perhaps the difference is that it's Obama's job to do this,

not Romney's.

9. One of my coworkers returning to Toledo from vacation was stuck in W Va.

Driving back home from North Carolina. She some how found a gas station around 11:30 last night and was able to return home. A deputy helped her find some gas she said... She was texting me during her search. She said the kids were scared, it was weird with no lights and gas stations closed etc.... It was her first experience with a natural disaster.

10. Why? Is WV out of Bootstraps or Something?

Democrats need to give some payback to those that don't support the party and WV is a big offender.

11. the coal miners are a big voter block

albeit, they are looked at as the black sheep of the union support,
they still need relief if we are ever going to switch from coal power to 'air' powered electric grid
