Source: Metro

Police have made one arrested after an apparent assassination attempt on Angela Merkel was foiled.

An armed man in a black Mercedes 4×4 has been detained after he allegedly tried to infiltrate Angela Merkel’s motorcade during her trip to Prague.

Czech police spokesperson Josef Bocan said: ‘The perpetrator has been detained.

‘He is suspected of attempting to cause a crime – specifically an attempt to use violence against an official.” ‘The incident is currently being investigated by Prague detectives.’

"While attempting to join the motorcade, he tried to run down police securing the road," Bocan said, adding that officers had to use firearms to subdue the suspect.

"The suspect acted alone. He was not armed, but items found in the car could easily have been used as weapons, particularly some cement cubes," Bocan added.

Sounds like he was planning on setting one on the gas, bailing, and using his car as a missile.

'A Bull in China Shop': Merkel's Visit to Prague Could Infuriate Ordinary Czechs

In an interview with Sputnik, Petr Hajek, chief editor of the website Protiproud, described German Chancellor Angela Merkel's forthcoming visit to the Czech Republic as little more than a provocation.

Right-wing protestors demonstrate against refugees, Islam and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin, Germany, May 7, 2016. The sign reads: "Volksschaedling" (Enemy of the People)

According to Hajek, "we will see an attempt to test the immunity of Czech society toward the crazy twists of Merkel's policy, which have led to a real chaos in Europe."

"But Merkel will be in the Czech Republic like a 'bull in a china shop', because her migration policy-related ally Sobotka's stance is out of sync with the sentiments of the absolute majority of Czechs," he said.

He added that Merkel will become a guest of honor in the country "only for those who want to see thousands of Islamists being settled in the Czech Republic, something that is already the case with Germany."

I realize this is a right wing, pro-Russia site, Sputnik News, interviewing the leader of a right wing Czech group, Protiproud, but it is an example of the hatred for Merkel that exists on the right. Who knows if the potential assassin in this case had any ties to right wing groups. It will be interesting to see if that is the case or not.

If nothing else, the folks at the Protiproud website could apply as foreign correspondents for Breitbart or World Nut Daily - although "extreme, extreme vetting" might not be a strong enough policy for these Czech right wingers.
