(Maryland)Governor will roll back septic rule, demands repeal of transportation bill

Source: Baltimore Sun

Gov. Larry Hogan on Saturday said his administration will roll back an O'Malley-era regulation on septic systems and demanded that the General Assembly repeal a new transportation law he dubbed "the road kill bill."

In a speech that turned combative at times, the Republican governor said that on Monday the Maryland Department of the Environment will issue a new regulation allowing counties to permit septic systems that are less than the best available technology to be installed on properties outside environmentally critical areas.

“We heard your voices loud and clear to take action on this issue,” he told the Maryland Association of Counties in Ocean City.

The septic system regulation rolls back rules requiring new construction to use high-tech systems to reduce water pollution. It was adopted by the administration of Gov. Martin O'Malley, a Democrat, in 2012.

Between the antiquated and inadequate septic systems in the rural areas, combined with heavy application of manure from high-density livestock and poultry operations on farmland, and antiquated, inadequate sewer and septic systems in our cities, it's finally caught up with us and we're faced with unsafe water conditions in our Great Lakes and their tributaries.

and we have a septic system. When we built our house, we were required to put the house close to the lake, and have a pump-back system that pumped the "dirty water" up and away from the shoreline to percolate on the front lawn, in front of the house. This is exactly to minimize environmental impact.

Anything to make money and lots of it. Even poisoning our waters and adding to algae probs in MD rivers and the Chesapeake Bay.

and I am going to demand that these "regulations" stay in place and Hogan is full of himself.

Hogan is nothing more than a chameleon to suit his needs and to support the right wing agenda, he may not have been speaking in Florida like the orange hair "guy' did last week, but his cronies are the same.
His business elite only look at the short term gain on profits instead of the long term gains on the environment

He (Hogan) probably hasn't figure out what happened in Ellicott City, yet, except there was a very big storm, think maybe its about the weather changes in the state.
We have had over 90 degree weather conditions for over 30 days which is unprecedented .
Is he that ignorant --no, he panders.

The Chesapeake is still slowly dying because of the runoff into the system from the roads, and the chicken farms and the septic system with perk rights, that S***T has got to go some where in the ground because of systems ARE Not in a close system.
This means that the box that collects the waste has a drain field, that's what perks rights mean and the urine and the fecal matter that does not settle in the box drains out into a perk plain, which then gets into the bay water and ground water, that's what he is NOT saying, so the Chesapeake get the run off.

In the lower part of the state the chicken farm spread the fecal matter all over and guess where it goes when it rains, into the Chesapeake, choking it .

This includes all the tributaries from the surrounding states.

The infrastructure in the state in some places is over 120 years old, and instead saying to the builders, hey, every time you build a home or a new building anywhere you have to have solar, nope and getting tax breaks for the installation, nope, that shows just how short sighetd he is.
Typical republican always looking at some way to cause problems instead of solving them just to be divisive with an ego

The largest part of the problem is agriculture, both plant and animal. They are incurable culprits that have the political power to essentially do anything they want in terms of environmental degradation. Requiring overbuilding of septic systems in noncritical areas is stupid and probably a gift to a lobbyist.

and the way they determine when it needs to be drained is by law is based on the occupants in the house.
I get mine done every two years, because of the law if it over flows just once I have to spend a lot on of money to clean it up, and get a big fine.
I know people that have a perk system, in PA, and the septic field drains into a stream, and by that I mean that it eventually goes into the perk field even if its thousand feet away from the house, it eventually gets to that stream.

I live in County which is about as right wing as you can go, in blue Maryland, we have Andy Harris as our fed do nothing Congressman, and damn near everyone in the country offices are right wingers, but I digress.

Notice in the information below, that the counties that have not adopted this tier system are the ones that are complaining the most.
The chicken farmers down in the southern part of the state and the farmers that who are spraying the nitrogen on the fields which are and is eventually draining into the bay, they crying along the eastern shore, and then with the added effect of the water coming from other states and streams and there nitrogen flowing into the bay, it has to go some where, and this soil is what it is because of how "all" the upper streams going across there properties are running off into the bay.

We are at the head waters of the Chesapeake, and the development I live in we all have septic systems, since we are out of the city limits of a public system, but by law we have to get our septic system cleaned out.

This is what the right wingers are upset about this information (see below) they say is hindering them, the farmers and the builders:

http://www.mdp.state.md.us/PDF/OurWork/SepticsBill/2015-0122-septic-law-report.pdf

This is the test that the builders do not want to perform, but have to adhere to , to build the home and to determine if the system is close or or open

I see what is a happening everyday on / in the news, driving around with the confederate flags, guns are us crowd
Hogan is a "mini me" of the drumpfster ilk, he is so beholden to the right wing it is amazing, he put "people" in his cabinet from the so called "democrat" side to make it look like he was a consensus builder, BS, all they were are DINO's in name.

What criteria determines these "critical" areas? With enough money any area can be taken off the critical list. And when population density increases then new critical areas should crop up but will they and what do you do about the old, deficient septic systems. This sounds like a disaster just waiting to happen. What Hogan heard was the sound of a sack full of $100 bills being dropped at his feet.

follow the $$$.

I also live next to a large lake.
Idiots here are blaming the geese for the e. coli in the water.
Yet, dismiss the idea that the huge condo that went in right before the water quality sucked
had anything to do with it.

The Rs run the local politics(thanks DNC) since Dr. Dean left.

Every one of the state level Rs have passed legislation that benefits their own
personal business. But the morans here keep electing them.

Septic systems are just another home for them....
