Trump Casinos’ Tax Debt Was $30 Million. Then Chris Christie Took Office.
Source: MSN/NY Times
By the time Chris Christie became governor of New Jersey, the states auditors and lawyers had been battling for several years to collect long-overdue taxes owed by the casinos founded by his friend Donald J. Trump.
The total, with interest, had grown to almost $30 million. The state had doggedly pursued the matter through two of the casinos bankruptcy cases and even accused the company led by Mr. Trump of filing false reports with state casino regulators about the amount of taxes it had paid.
But the year after Governor Christie, a Republican, took office, the tone of the litigation shifted. The state entertained settlement offers. And in December 2011, after six years in court, the state agreed to accept just $5 million, roughly 17 cents on the dollar of what auditors said the casinos owed.

The Times discovered the agreement during a review of the thousands of documents filed in the bankruptcies of Mr. Trumps casinos. The taxes went unpaid from 2002 through 2006, during which time Mr. Trump was leading the company as chairman and, until 2005, as its chief executive. He reaped millions of dollars in fees and bonuses from the company, even as it underperformed competitors, lost money every year and saw its stock collapse.

(11,517 posts)In fact you just about have to ask what was in the deal for Christie.
I'd often been of the opinion that people such as tRump and Christie had ties to the mob, but hell, after reading this it dawned on me that tRump and Christie ARE the mob.

I would pay the bill for $30, that was due them. Then, I would get another bill for the interest on that $30 that amounted to $1 and change and then a late fee. It came to around $3 total. They would send a bill, I would call and get it waved. They would then send another bill the following year, I would call and get it waved, but them I'd pay. Then the following year I'd get another bill and just paid it again. I haven't had a sitter in four years, and this shit is still going on.
All for around $3 each.
The amount of recordkeeping, the processing of the bill, statements and postage were more than the $3.

Yet, this guy walks away with millions off the top.
That's his M.O., don't pay so the people will accept 10 - 25 cents on the dollar.

He has credit, but if we were to go to any of our creditors and ask for a settlement, our credit would be damaged for years.

(251 posts)Don't be fooled by this man's buffoonery. He may be just trying to lull the democrats to sleep and lower voter turnout by making all dems think the election is in the bag. In Ky we did the same thing with Mike Conway and our over confidence got us Bevin (A Sam Brownback want-a-be). God help us.

And forget the crimes Trump committed. He is above prosecution, even if he lies about the loot.
