Experts say white supremacists see Trump as ‘last stand’
Source: Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his campaign are expressing ideas similar to those espoused by white supremacists, legal, media and civil rights experts say. In addition, the experts said Wednesday, white supremacists are using the 2016 presidential elections to attempt to control the culture of politics.
Many white supremacists see this as their last stand for controlling the country, Heidi Beirich, head of the Intelligence Project at the Southern Poverty Law Center, said on a conference call with reporters.
Representatives of Trumps campaign and the Republican National Committee did not return calls seeking comment.
Beirich said Trump has flirted with these groups and their ideals through some of his campaign statements and platforms, including building a wall between the U.S.-Mexico border; a proposed ban on Muslims entering the country; planning to join Marco Rubio at what they consider an anti-LGBT event in Orlando on the two-month anniversary of the Pulse massacre; as the failure to immediately denounce the endorsement of David Duke, former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan.

as they feel more and more cornered, they will lash out more violently, until they are tossed into the dustbin of history.

It's at the core of Trump's support. Unfortunately, not all are so duped. None in my family support Dumpf and we all fit into this category. We believe in America, first and foremost.

(15,380 posts)Made a small documentary in 2008 about the election, and one of the guys they kept coming to was a stereotypical Southern redneck bubba-type who laughingly bragged about how he discouraged his daughters from voting, etc. At the end when Obama had won, he was actually crying because there was nothing just for the White man anymore. I imagine that that sadness eventually turned to anger, and it has been stoked for 8 years by right-wing lies heard on his favorite radio/tv shows and from his pastor in church, and there are many more like him. These are the people these experts are talking about.
I know Hillary's going to win, but I shudder to think about this group losing its collective shit because they have to deal with four more years of someone not belonging in the Oval Office in their eyes. These are also the people Trump's dog-whistle about 2nd Amendment voters was for.
