Pence: 'Of Course' Trump Wasn't Encouraging Violence Against Clinton

Source: Talking Points Memo

When asked about how he felt about Donald Trump's comments that “Second Amendment people” might be able to stop Hillary Clinton from appointing Supreme Court judges, Mike Pence jumped to his running mate's defense and denied that Trump meant the comments as a threat.

Shortly after Trump made those comments Tuesday at a rally in North Carolina, Pence joined other Trump surrogates trying to walk them back following his own campaign event in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

"I think Donald Trump is very clear," Pence told NBC Philadelphia reporter Lauren Mayk.

"Hillary Clinton's made it very clear that she wants to see changes in the rights of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms," he continued. "And I think what Donald Trump is clearly saying was that people who cherish that right, people who believe that firearms in the hands of law-abiding citizens make communities more safe, not less safe should be involved in the political process."

What is the problem with Donald Trump? Every time he says something, his surrogates have to explain what he meant.

It's as if all of us don't speak English. Words have specific meanings and that's why there are dictionaries: they create the commonality of communication. But when Mr. Trump speaks, someone else has to explain what he meant or that he was "joking" or "sarcastic."

I clearly understand the words he says. Of all people, Governor Pence doesn't have to explain them to me. Donald Trump's followers also understand those words and that's where the danger lies.

could be done to stop her from appointing SC justices - ie "nothing" could be done except maybe the "second amendment people" could do something. It had nothing to do with the November vote - AT ALL - as Trump et al are now claiming.

He is trying to scare her by coming up so very close to that line. Classic bully tactic.

I imagine she will now be more resolved than ever.

Yeah Mike, what he said is very clear and anyone who understands English knows exactly what he said. Your lies about what he meant are obvious and disgusting. If you had any shred of human decency you would have to admit that Donald Trump is a psychopath and that your duty as a citizen of this country is to make sure that this lunatic never gets anywhere near the highest office in the land.

25. GOP gaslighting America

Aug 2016

This reminds me yet again fo the article from a few weeks back about the GOP and Trump in particular gaslighting America.

https://www.texasobserver.org/how-the-gop-is-gaslighting-america/

Gaslighting is a psychological tactic used by abusers, particularly but not only domestic abusers, to confuse, shame and manipulate others into believing that they cannot accurately interpret reality. Trump spokesperson Katrina Pierson echoed Manafort later on Tuesday, flat-out denying that the speech was plagiarized. She too used the word “absurd.”

Simply replace yesterday’s events about “Second amendment people” or last week’s about inviting Russia to hack Hillary, and you get the picture. They simply reinvent reality to serve their purpose, denying what is right in front of us and obvious.
