Pictures appear to show British special forces on Syrian front line

Source: The Guardian

Images published by BBC depict soldiers securing the perimeter of a rebel army base following an attack by Islamic State

The first images of what appear to be British special forces operating on the ground in Syria have emerged, showing vehicles patrolling near the scene of an attack by Islamic State.

The pictures were taken in June and were first published on Monday by the BBC.

It is believed to be the first time British forces have been photographed operating inside Syria.

The images depict British special forces sitting atop Thalab long range patrol vehicles as they move around the perimeter of a rebel base close to the Syria-Iraq border.

Thalabs are heavily modified Toyota-based off-roaders reportedly built in Jordan.

The BBC has obtained exclusive pictures showing for the first time British special forces operating on the ground in Syria.

It is the vehicles that first stand out. The open air, Thalab long range patrol vehicles are built for harsh terrain and are favoured by special forces.

In this case it is British special forces, seen for the first time on the ground, inside Syria, in photographs obtained by the BBC.

... not least because of the gas tanks everywhere. One hit, and you're barbecue. (presumably several of them hold water, though)

Back in the day when I collected such things, I was never a WW2 weenie but I had to grab him. Wished I grabbed a few more before they stopped making 1/6.
