Trump Allies Plot Candidate Intervention After Disastrous 48 Hours

Source: NBC

Key Republicans close to Donald Trump's orbit are plotting an intervention with the candidate after a disastrous 48 hours led some influential voices in the party to question whether Trump can stay at the top of the Republican ticket without catastrophic consequences for his campaign and the GOP at large.

Republican National Committee head Reince Priebus, former Republican New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich are among the Trump endorsers hoping to talk the real estate mogul into a dramatic reset of his campaign in the coming days, sources tell NBC News.

The group of GOP heavyweights hopes to enlist the help of Trump's children - who comprise much of his innermost circle of influential advisers - to aid in the attempt to rescue his candidacy. Trump's family is considered to have by far the most influence over the candidate's thinking at what could be a make-or-break moment for his campaign.

The idea is in its early stages, and there's no guarantee that Trump's team would entertain a conversation requiring such comprehensive changes for a candidate who has resisted calls to moderate his tone or reel in his most outlandish political positions.

This reminds me of how Romney (and even more deliciously, Karl Rove) was totally caught off guard when Obama won in 2012. He believed his OWN polls, instead of, you know, reliable ones that showed him losing. Nobody will ever be able to convince Trump he's wrong...it just won't happen. And since his kids are as delusional as he is, well do the math.

Trump isn't a guy you can do an "intervention" on because that would require a capacity for introspection, which he doesn't have. His kids won't be any use because they are political rookies who have spent their entire lives in Daddy's bizarre alternate universe and are as clueless as he is. And Giuliani and Gingrich have been among Trump's biggest enablers - they've encouraged and defended his behavior so far; how are they going to persuade him to behave now? How is anybody going to stop him from being what he is?

Wed Aug 3, 2016, 01:01 PM

That doesn't even make sense. Yes, you can reboot a computer, whose memory is stripped clean, but you cannot "reboot" actual history. As much as they might try, no matter how much Trump tries to kissy-kissy, it'll only make him look phony on top of insane. Dumping him as a candidate reflects on the entire party and also won't help. And Obama's handing the paint can to Mitchell and Ryan to apint the, selves into a corner with is not going to help them on this ride. They "reboot", now suddenly a whole team of Democratic leaders are saying"We told you so, they did what we asked" and the right goes (more) insane. They are seriously screwed right now. The best they can hope for is that he mellows out, but come the debates and Hillary starts pulling off his armor in front of the whole country, whatever facade they concoct will all melt away

Or do you give him the best advice, the greatest, and risk he does the opposite just to show you he's smarter than everyone else?

(Answer: It doesn't matter. He won't listen. He will do whatever the hell he happens to think of in that moment. You're stuck with the Donald you've got, and can never get to the Donald you wish for.)

Now that they helped enable the monster, we should expect them to troubleshoot a potentially explosive situation when he loses. They should speak of this immediately.

"And it's clear that deep unease within the Republican Party is continuing to fester, despite party officials' efforts to turn the corner with a parade of "unity" pageantry of the GOP convention two weeks ago"

Needless to say, Trump will not be intervened. I suspect Melania has no influence over him at all and possibly no real place in his life, jmho.

Trump is the choice of a Republican rank and file created by 20 years of their propaganda arm of Fox "News." Now their version of Rosemary's baby is all grown up and running as their candidate for president. If they don't like that, they should abandon their propaganda machine and get themselves another one.
