(23,156 posts)because police were involved. Road rage shootings occur all the time. With all the guns out there, this is just another day in America.
The only difference is that in this case, a whole lot more police power was brought in. When it's some motorist shooting another motorist (or a four year old inside a car), not much happens.

(2,300 posts)...is that it's illustrative of the life and death danger a police officer can very quickly face during a routine traffic stop. This is one reason beat cops can be pretty nervous, and one thing most of us don't face in the day to day performance of our jobs.

(10,039 posts)You going to start posting fatality reports every time a roofer falls to his/her death?

(2,300 posts)So what? That hardly detracts from the potential lethal dangers that a street cop can face on any given day, and in the case of these two officers - did.
It's not an easy job, and the pressures can be enormous. Not sure why anyone would want to argue otherwise.

(10,039 posts)It's more dangerous. ...period. The stories of their deaths aren't posted here though because there's no political point to be made and no muck to be stirred up. It's not LBN.

(23,156 posts)Meanwhile, how many people are killed every day by guns in this country? How many wounded and maimed?
People who go into police work clearly understand the nature of their job.

(23,156 posts)and every single day people who are not putting their asses on the line get shot. To sanctify the life of a cop over the life of, say a four year old, is wrong. The cop put on his uniform that morning knowing there was a distant possibility of something terrible happen. The four year old did not start her day that way.

(23,156 posts)The number of officers killed in the line of duty has been declining. That should count for something.

Why can't we focus on the white blood cells, consider them heroic and ignore the cancerous ones-- there's just a few and people make too big a deal out of them.

(70,490 posts).... who stops to help you a metastasizing cancer. Everyday and 24/7 all over
this country the men and women of law enforcement put their asses on the line to
help people. Yes, we have some racist and or bullies as police officers and they
and the people who protect them have no business being in their jobs but to ignore
the kindness and courage that cops do everyday is bullshit.

(2,931 posts)...ignoring shootings in which cops are involved in. That is how we ended up with so many cops shooting innocent people - not a lot of people even knew it was going on. Thankfully proliferation of video recording technology is finally shedding light on the matter. I think it is in innocent people's best interest that any shooting involving cops should be scrutinized rather than ignored.

Just left Paris and our friends tell us they aren't ever afraid of the police, as many of us are. And that the police don't have to worry about crazy people shooting them.
Why won't police departments start pushing for stricter gun regulations???
