Judge denies request to stop voter purge
Source: The Miami Herald
TALLAHASSEE —U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle on Wednesday denied a request by the U.S. Department of Justice to stop Florida from removing non-U.S. citizens from the voter rolls. The Justice Department asked for a restraining order, claiming the removal of noncitizens violates a federal law prohibiting the systemic removal of noncitizens less than 90 days before a federal election. But Hinkle said his reading of that law does not prevent the state from taking noncitiznes off the rolls. Attorneys for secretary of state Ken Detzner told the judge that the federal government’s request was meaningless because the purgin has stopped. 1. SUSPECTED non-citizens.
|
The problem isn't the removal of ACTUAL non-citizens.
The problem is the unintentional (or intentional) removal of legitimate voters who have the same names as non-citizens. |

3. Actual non-citizens can be purged
|
That is not in question and even folks here would be ok with that.
But we have a state that will purge someone because they MIGHT possibly maybe be a non-citizen, or have the same last name as a non-citizen. The state's approach seems to be purge first, and ask questions later, like after the election. In a case where there is doubt about the person's citizenship status, the benefit of the doubt should always go to the registered voter. |

5. It's most likely a moot point as the Election Supers made it clear they were not going
|

4. It has not stopped in Lee and Collier
|
They refused to stop it, and have said they are adding more to the purge list. At rate there will be NO Democratic votes in these places. That IS what they want to do. "Lookee here, we got ourselves a DEMOCRAT", as I was told. How could I not think what I do after that?

8. We are losing the right to vote.

I have a feeling that somebody has to go to prison soon, for this:

9. If they refuse to quit purging we should seek to grant citizenship to those they are purging!
|
I realize they are throwing people off who are true citizens but, can we have an immediate action taken to grant citizenship to those Latino's and others seeking citizenship?
