Eric Trump said his charity received ‘hundreds of thousands’ from his father. Now, he’s not sure.

Source: The Washington Post

By David A. Fahrenthold July 12 at 10:00 AM

Last week, Eric Trump said that his own charitable foundation had received "hundreds of thousands of dollars" in personal donations from his father. But on Monday, Eric Trump said he could not name a single instance when Donald Trump had given such a gift.

"I’m sure there have been but without going back through 10 years, I wouldn’t remember check for check off the top of my head," Eric Trump wrote in an email message to The Washington Post.

Eric Trump made those comments in response to follow-up questions from The Post — which has been seeking evidence for Donald Trump's assertion that he has given generously, but privately, to charities in recent years.

As the day went on, Eric Trump was pressed to explain the contrast with his own statements from a few days before.

journalism. It is great that the article did follow up asking Eric Trump for details. His answer is devastating and I doubt this is dropped here.

It is also not a crime for a man as wealthy as Trump has said he is to not be a philanthropist. Maybe he modelled himself after Ebeneezer Scrooge, before the ghosts appeared. Sunlight is needed -- and maybe if the media sees a story they will go for it.

for getting schwagg like helmets and super-luxury vacations for himself or family or friends by using money from his foundations without disclosing it.

That is a clear violation of law, but nobody seems to be investigating it.

to Trump's people, when Trump won't release his own tax returns.
Of course, the VP vetting process is internal to Trump's campaign, and will not be seen by the public.

(Is Ben Carson still in charge of the Trump's VP vetting? It's hard to imagine Ben having the least capability or capacity, let alone interest, in that process.)

Shouldn't be too hard to find that check by check thing. If he's filed tax returns, those contributions should be there. Easy Peasy. Unless you and your father are lying con men.
