Concealed guns legal without a permit in Idaho starting Friday
Source: Oregonian
Starting Friday, people in Idaho 21 and over will no longer need a permit or training to carry a concealed gun within city limits, according to KREM 2.
While it's already legal in Idaho to carry a concealed gun without a permit outside city limits, starting July 1, city limits will no longer factor into where a person can or can't carry a concealed weapon.
In March, Idaho's governor, C.L. "Butch" Otter, signed Senate Bill 1389 into law, relaxing gun regulations in the state. The bill covers "any deadly weapon carried on or about the person in a manner not discernible by ordinary observation," which means it also applies to "any dirk, dirk knife, bowie knife, dagger" along with firearms.
July 1 also marks the beginning of other new laws in Idaho: powdered alcohol will be banned, movie theaters will be able to serve alcohol during movies that have nudity, aborted fetal tissue will banned from use in research and any woman seeking an abortion will be given a list of free ultrasound providers, which KREM 2 points out are "typically owned by anti-abortion advocates."

(6,335 posts)What I saw going on at the univ of Idaho it will be interesting. Lots of alcohol and even live sex shows in the streets.
Idaho does have the 6th highest suicide rate in the US though, 2/3 using guns which make it much more impulsive.

(2,474 posts)As the stats above show, they haven't had bloodbaths everywhere except the city areas and have a lower murder rate than most.

having lower rates. Maybe you were looking at number of murders, which put a low population state like Idaho at an advantage.

(33,246 posts)Idaho is a really cool landscape and there are tons of wild hot springs. The Sawtooth Range is stunning. Craters of the Moon is mind-bending.
You're not going there for the Hippie Culture, and every jackhole who was wants to CC was already doing so. Odds are, they're only going to shoot themselves or their family, anyway.

States are quickly tossing useless permits aside because people realize that gun control does little more than enable violent criminals.

(50,528 posts)Before Idaho got "constitutional carry" we had three legal ways to carry a pistol in town.
First was open carry. You could just strap on yer shootin' iron and walk around no questions asked.
Next was the Standard Carry Permit. To get one, they put a gun, a zucchini and a pair of socks on the table. If you can pick out the gun in less than five attempts and you haven't killed anyone this week unless they really, really needed it, you can get one. This permit is so useless most people go for a Utah permit instead.
And finally is the Enhanced Carry Permit. You must take an 8-hour class and fire 100 rounds - but there's no minimum number of hits required.

(7,872 posts)Most of that is concentrated in the 5 cities. Almost 1/2 of the land has very few to no people on it at all. Total population is about 1.5 million. Compare that density to New York, or California.
It still makes no sense to give any fool with a gun the right to carry it anywhere, any time without respect to the safety of people nearby. This is still a very dangerous object that must be handled with appropriate care. Would you allow the same person to walk around wearing live grenades on their belt?

If there isn't now, there soon will be...

the thing about CC is that you never see the guns. they're concealed.
Idaho is pretty. Well, not the Snake River Plain, but the mountains are.

(21,055 posts)My son is excited about the car trip. But I am still nervous about some twitchy finger gun worshipper not understanding if my son has one his meltdowns. We know how to keep them from happening but sometimes some we don't expect it and it happens and he loses it. So I am concerned. Plus we plan on staying in a hotel.

Also: Wild Rose Hot Spring is right on 26 east of Craters - Mile Marker 112, 121 or something like that. No sign, the spring is around a basalt outcrop to the right on the north side of the road.
Enjoy Trump Country!

Idaho has always been kind of a wide open kind of place. I grew up in Spokane. I remember stopping in Wallace in the middle of the night and it was really an experience.
Northern Idaho was built on mining and logging. And the miners and the loggers were always a pretty rowdy bunch.
