Democrat Russ Feingold opens up huge lead in bid to retake his old Senate seat in Wisconsin

Source: Daily News Bin

Last the nation heard from popular progressive Wisconsin Senator Russ Feingold, he had lost his seat in the 2010 mid-term washout which pushed a number of solid Democrats out of office. But six years later, the guy who almost accidentally beat him, republican Ron Johnson, has done little ingratiate himself to the people in the state. Russ Feingold has decided to reclaim his Senate seat in the 2016 race, and the lead he’s opened up over Johnson is now a whopping one.

Feingold has led to varying degrees in every poll conducted throughout this election season, but back in the spring, some polls had pegged it as being as little as a three or four point race. Now however, the two polls conducted this month have pegged Feingold’s lead over Johnson as being nine points in the Marquette poll and thirteen points in the PPP poll. This has boosted the average margin in the race to eleven points, setting up a potential blowout if Johnson can’t find a way to claw his way back into the race.

Wisconsin is just the latest downticket race in which the democratic candidate appears to be getting a boost from nationwide backlash against republican nominee Donald Trump, who appears to be in danger of taking the entire republican party down with him as his campaign verges on unraveling. Russ Feingold is popular enough that he was likely to have had the edge in the Wisconsin race regardless. But the growth of his lead suggests a larger trend in which other downticket democrats may also benefit from the unique circumstances of the 2016 election.

I love Feingold and was so disappointed when he lost in 2010. I voted for him in his first Senate race. I'm no longer a Wisconsin resident so I can't vote for him this time around, but I will be thrilled to have him back in the Senate!

What you going to see is the Dark Money go to work in September and October, just like 12' and 14'. You have some heavy hitters that just do not care about no one but themselves. Couple of names to watch,Menard,Roundy,Mills,Hendricks,,and the Family that owns Ashley Furniture. And of course, the States biggest tax break recipient, the Koch Brothers.

The state of Wisconsin was more than +6 and +3 percentage points Democratic than the nation in each of 2008 and 2012.

I would anticipate Hillary Clinton carrying Wisconsin on a similar level—it is a base state for the Democratic Party.

In 2012, first-term U.S. Senate winner Tammy Baldwin ran about –1.5 percentage points behind President Barack Obama’s carriage of the state.
So we may get Russ Feingold—unseating Ron Johnson—with a margin quite close to Hillary Clinton’s.

We can take it back this time and maybe shoot for 60 votes! That would make old Turtle Head go back into his shell!
