Iceland stuns England at Euros

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by etherealtruth (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

1. Iceland pull off greatest ever Euro upset

Make no mistake about this; Iceland's victory could not have been more thoroughly deserved. England were out-battled and out-thought, the result being a 2-1 defeat that will go down as the biggest one-off shock at a European Championship.

Nobody could have predicted this after England produced the blistering start Roy Hodgson wanted. Their plan was to stretch an Iceland side big on organisation but short on pace, and it paid instant dividends. Before the three-minute mark had been reached, Daniel Sturridge turned the Iceland defence around with a searching diagonal pass for Raheem Sterling.

It was enough to tease goalkeeper Hannes Halldorsson out to challenge, and as Sterling nudged the ball away from goal, he clearly fouled the winger. Referee Damir Skomina gave a straightforward penalty decision; Wayne Rooney drilled the spot-kick in low, and England seemed to have set themselves for a fairly quiet night.

Lots of Welsh speakers in the North (my favorite part of the country). Funny semi-side note. Prince Philip just remarked that you would have to be very intelligent, to speak Welsh. So, that could explain it.

Having Wales get through one more segment of the games would make me very happy. For them to win the whole thing would have me smiling, for days. Guess you can guess I'm of Welsh heritage.

Thread titles turn up on the front page, and Latest Threads as well as in LBN. This would spoil it for people. If it were at a time where anyone interested would have watched it live, that might not matter.

As I said, this appears not just in LBN, but on the DU front page and Latest threads. People might think that they shouldn't have to avoid all of DU for hours to be able to watch a match once they get home. All it takes would be to post it under a "spoiler alert" title in another forum. It's just being considerate.

Iceland are pretty good. 8% of the country's population are in France supporting them.

I wonder if that screaming commentator (from Iceland - Austria -- last minute Iceland win) had a coronary
