Cincinnati (CNN)Elizabeth Warren unleashed a blistering attack against Donald Trump Monday in her debut on the 2016 campaign trail as one of Hillary Clinton's top surrogates.

Highlighting sharp contrasts between Clinton -- whom Warren endorsed earlier this month -- and Trump, Warren slammed Trump as a "a small, insecure money grubber" who would "crush you into the dirt."

"Now, Donald Trump says he'll make America great again ... It's stamped on the front of his goofy hats," Warren said. "You want to see goofy? Look at him in that hat."

Warren suggested that Trump was in it only for himself.

With Marla Maples, he had a daughter, Tiffany, who is about 22 years old. With his current wife, Melania, he has a son named Barron who is about 10 years old. Respectfully, each of them is seemingly intelligent and attractive; they shouldn't be judged by the disgusting life choices made by their father.

And yet, why doesn't he feature his younger children in his campaign? Granted, his youngest shouldn't be expected to make public statements. As we've seen before, their young age didn't stop Sarah Palin from bringing her brood onto the campaign trail with her.

It’s commonplace to see people at Hillary Clinton campaign rallies chanting “Hillary! Hillary!” while pumping their fists in the air excitedly. But it was another thing entirely to see Senator Elizabeth Warren being the one leading the chant. And thus begins the next phase of the 2016 Presidential election, in which Clinton and Warren now come off as best buddies and political soulmates as they appear on stage arm in arm, as the nation turns on its television to try to figure out what it means for the election.

This morning in Cincinnati you saw Warren clapping emphatically in Clinton’s direction, as if to tell her progressive followers that they’d better support her in the election or else. You heard Clinton repeatedly referring to Senator Warren by her first name of “Elizabeth” in an intentional show of informality, while praising Warren’s work creating the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and thanking her for her attacks on Donald Trump.

More than a mere photo op of an event, Clinton and Warren each made a point of spelling out how much they’ve long agreed on politically. So maybe this a preview of the 2016 Democratic Party ticket, with the two strongest people in the party just happening to be women. Or maybe they have no desire to share a ticket together, and they’re just enjoying sharing a political party together. It’s tough to say where this goes, because they’re each too smart to fully show their hand.

This is precisely the message that they both want to be conveying. It sets them each up for the kind of influence they’re looking for over the next several years. And this was merely their first campaign appearance together. .......................

I'd say there's a good chance Ms. Warren will be our next VP. Not sure how I feel about that. I think she's doing a splendid job in the Senate and I'd hate to see her leave.
