Report: Issa Staffer Offered To Stop Holder Contempt Vote For DOJ Scalp
Source: talkingpointsmemo.com
Rep. Darrell Issa’s chief investigative counsel offered to stop the contempt vote against Attorney General Eric Holder in exchange for the resignation of Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer, Newsweek’s Dan Klaidman is reporting. Issa staffer Stephen Castor brought up the issue of “accountability” during a phone call with a senior DOJ official last week, according to the report. Castor reportedly said they could head off the contempt vote if Breuer stepped down. Breuer, who heads the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, apologized in October for not telling other Justice Department officials that guns were allowed to “walk” during the Bush administration when Congress first raised questions about Operation Fast And Furious in early 2011. 2. That is all it is ever about

The GOP is always on a witch hunt when it comes to Democrats. Holder being appointed by President Obama is considered part of the Democratic Administration.

3. This would be a good reason to invoke Executive Privilege in support of the separation of power.
|
Otherwise the house can just run rough shod over the executive branch and black mail the EB into doing their bidding. |

14. Could always point out this story makes the Republicans sound somewhat reasonable
|
So it could be trying to create a more friendly narrative for the Republicans than the vendetta.

Last edited Fri Jun 22, 2012, 11:59 PM USA/ET - Edit history (10) Sure it isn't about this since the GOP has so many fingers in it as well (heh and we all know the GOP does not investigate it's own corruption unless they can blame it one someone else). So who knows at this point.
U.S. AG Eric Holder, DoJ Head Lanny Breuer Linked To Banks Accused Of Foreclosure Fraud http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/20/eric-holder-banks-lanny-breuer_n_1218452.html 'Reuters reported in December that under Holder and Breuer, the Justice Department hasn't brought any criminal cases against big banks or other companies involved in mortgage servicing, even though copious evidence has surfaced of apparent criminal violations in foreclosure cases.' 'While Holder and Breuer were partners at Covington, the firm's clients included the four largest U.S. banks - Bank of America, Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo & Co - as well as at least one other bank that is among the 10 largest mortgage servicers.' Whole damn system is rotten, everyone eating out of the others hand, on both sides and as usual We the People just get ________. Makes me think of another post of mine on Power Structures. |
