Portland Public Schools Superintendent Carole Smith was informed about lead testing on March 22, according to emails obtained by KGW.
Smiths chief of staff Amanda Whalen forwarded her boss an email chain, outlining the plan to test drinking fountains and sinks at Rose City Park Elementary School. The email was titled FW: Water sampling at Rose City Park.
We should have the results by the week of April 4, wrote Andy Fridley, Senior Manager of Environmental Health and Safety at PPS.
Smith has stated she didnt know about the test results until May 25.

(35,282 posts)Because that's the real question.
I knew local schools had reading testing in early April. The results came back in late May. I saw the results last week.
(The 2001 test results were disturbing. However, they ran the tests twice in many cases and the second time the results were lower. Why? Dunno. More importantly, most of the high-Pb results were at hand-washing stations. Doesn't explain where the lead comes from, however. If inside the building, then it'll be a mess to fix. If from outside the building, it means that lots of people in the neighborhoods around the school might be having their kids drink water with high levels of lead. It's their job to make sure they know these things, I guess.)

(2,412 posts)I wish someone would do some investigative reporting on the quality of principals at Portland Public Schools. There have been several
who are mentally ill, alcoholics, womanizers, and thieves who run the schools like little fifedoms and tyrannize staffs with little supervision. This is the other scandal at PPS. This is a misuse of public funds and the trust that the public places in our schools.
