Romney says Rubio being 'thoroughly vetted'
Source: AP-Excite
By STEVE PEOPLES and KASIE HUNT HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) - Mitt Romney says Florida. Sen. Marco Rubio is being "thoroughly vetted" for vice president. The comments came Tuesday amid reports by ABC News and The Washington Post citing unnamed advisers that Rubio isn't being vetted for the No. 2 spot on the GOP ticket. Romney told reporters Tuesday evening that he "can't imagine" who the advisers are. He says the reports are false. THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below. Read more: http://apnews.excite.com/article/20120619/D9VGFFS80.html
In this May 24, 2012, file photo, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., speaks just off the Senate floor on Capitol Hill in Washington, during a series of votes. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is staying mum on whether Rubio, a rising star in Republican politics, has been eliminated from his short list of potential running mates. The presumptive GOP presidential nominee told Fox News on Tuesday, June 19, 2012, that "a number of people are being vetted," but that only two people, himself and a senior adviser, know who's on the list. Also:
Newsflash: Sen. Marco Rubio is on Republican Mitt Romney’s shortlist for president.
Really? For president? Lastly, I doubt Rubio will sway the Hispanic vote outside of Florida which will probably be voter disenfranchised already. |

I wavered when his lie about his parents surfaced. That didn't last long.
Rubio is the solution for the 'Latino problem.' Some Latinos will vote for them, just because there's a Latino on the ticket. Sorry, it's true. |

Your mistake is in thinking that the majority of Repigs can think strategically.
They can't. They only see what's right in front of them, and a Hispanic VP just won't be accepted. |

11. Is it normal for Presidential candidates to announce who they are vetting for the position?
|
It would seem by making this announcement Romney is either locking himself in to picking Rubio or he is going to leave the appearance that Rubio failed the vetting process and is going to damage him. Romney is either dead set on Rubio or he is extremely stupid for making this statement.

Watch her acceptance speech. She sounds like she just got voted onto the school board. She inspires zero confidence. It's like they're cheering her to keep her from falling apart. It's three o'clock in the morning and the phone rings. Right.

is exactly how Romney would play her, remember she was a Democrat, she is the first female latino governor in the U.S. she works in a very bipartisan fashion. That 3 a.m. phone call logic doens't work anymore thanks to gaffe prone Joe Biden and his many bumbling moments. In fact the teaheads I work with always say hell no to impeaching Obama because can you imagine Joe in charge? So that cuts both ways and I believe is not an important distinction.

Picking her a relatively low key figure who used to be a Democrat, has clearly worked in a Bipartisan fashion in her state is a Female and a Latino and won't bring the same scrutiny (baggage) that a (Condi Rice) would.

but there is that glass ceiling thing and if she isn't as polarizing as Palin was, and she certainly isn't as dumb as Palin is either, being a low key candidate allowing Romney to keep all the focus may work the point is she becomes a twofer.

34. Not convinced, either.

I don't think Mitt gets to make the call, either. I think the LDS thinks it gets to make the call. And I think Ron Paul is maneuvering so that he gets to make the call. Then there are half a dozen billionaires who think they bought the right to name that person, and the Teabaggers' bite-down veto, and Jeb wanting to keep his potential running mates for '016 clean and out of this trainwreck, and so on. Oh, and Newt. Can't forget him.
I think the odds are high that at least one of those three to five groups will flatly oppose a female and/or Latino running mate. I think the odds are high that at least one of those three to five groups will also flatly oppose Ron Paul himself. Which leaves rich white male Ivy leaguers who haven't wrecked a state too badly lately. My best guess is that the one guy--and it will be a guy, because they really do hate women, except maybe Ron Paul--that they can all agree on is Jon Huntsman (what, you forgot UPenn is in the Ivy League?). Yeah, the can-deliver-Utah's-already-locked-six-electoral-votes Jon Huntsman, I really do think they're that stupid. Or more specifically I think they're all going to have to settle on the least sleazy guy because they can't trust each others' suggestions. I think Jeb Bush wants Rubio for himself in 2016, so he'll happily let Romney's people do the background check now. |
