Romney to attend NAACP national convention in Houston
Source: Washington Post
Romney to attend NAACP national convention in Houston News of Romney’s plans to attend the convention, which takes place July 7-12 in Houston, was first reported by April Ryan of American Urban Radio Networks. Romney is scheduled to speak on July 11. The move makes Romney the latest GOP White House hopeful to attend the annual summit. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) addressed the convention in July 2008; George W. Bush declined an invitation in 2004 but spoke at the 2006 summit. In his 2008 speech, McCain acknowledged the policy differences between himself and President Obama and told the crowd that “it may be that many of you share his view.” “But even allowing for disagreement, surely there’s common ground in the principle that government cannot go on forever spending recklessly and incurring debt,” McCain said. Maybe use some hip-hop slang, or do an impromptu rap.
I can't wait! |

I know it's a joke, but the way he's been handling himself lately, that just may be possible.
Someday someone will write a book about this campaign, and how hard it was to keep the Max Headroom candidate on script. |

I can't think of a single thing it's done that would be of interest to the NAACP except open up crappy jobs at Staples after enriching himself and his friends by plundering of other people's lives and destroying our manufacturing base with junk bonds. Greedy, lying little bastard. |

15. I hope he can offer African Americans some guidance while there
|
Perhaps he can offer advice to beleagured minorities on how to create tax shelters for their investments, or outline the advantages a lower capital gains tax will bring them when they reap the rewards of a strategic sell-off.
Maybe he can regale them with his intimate knowlege of the "touch-tone keypad" at the local Sheetz, and how "amazing" it is that his food is delivered without the assistance of a maitre'd or wait staff. He can speak at length about the good hard work done by the men at his wife's stable and how they'll be the millionaires of tomorrow. There's just so much he can identify with to the NAACP I don't see what can go wrong until he says those words we all know are right on the tip of his tongue: "Some of my best friends are black". |

|
Does it make me a bad person if I'm actually hoping he will make some horribly insensitive, backwards, cringe-inducing speech? It's not like it would be unprecedented for Mitt to do something like that, after all.

18. I would not be at all surprised
|
if he said something about how much he enjoys chitlins and watermelon, then goes off into a "rap" routine for a bit, and peppers his prepared speech about tax reduction with words like "slammin'" or "wack." "I want to restore the principles that made America the powerhouse of the Earth, yo."
What has happened, I think, is that Mittens' handlers have realized that he has absolutely no idea how to communicate with people outside his little circle of filthy rich Mormons and hedge fund managers, so they've told him to pick up on some aspect of the location or culture of his audience. Like, "OK, Mitt, today you'll be speaking to a group of Nebraska farmers. Say something about corn so it looks like you're interested in what they do." But unfortunately Mitt is so tone-deaf from years of isolation in his rich-guy bubble that he is unable to comment on some unfamiliar topic, like corn, in a way that conveys the impression that he can relate to the audience or that he gives a shit about them. When he speaks to an African-American audience he will feel the need to establish some kind of connection with them, but he doesn't know anything about AA culture other than the stereotypes he's picked up from his rich Republican friends - so whatever comes out of his mouth in his sorry attempt to "connect" is likely to be lame at best, racist at worst, and certainly cringe-inducing. |

19. I'll never forget that clip of him at an MLK parade...
|
the worst was walking up to a young girl and saying.. " I like your gloves, they're very pretty." The girl was like "ooookay." They were standard white gloves that every member of a drill team or beauty queen would wear. Romney looked like he was going to pass out from stress being around real people. So awkward.
Please oh please, let him go off the script and be himself... Now that they refuse to let him be around anyone unscripted or around the media anymore, we're losing the true essence of Romney. He's another George Bush without a sense of humor. They're trying to hide who he really is, and how badly he relates to average Americans. Still can't figure out why the republicans want to vote for a guy that doesn't have a job. |
