Mitt Romney Refuses To Say If He'd Overturn Obama's Immigration Decision

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- Mitt Romney criticized President Barack Obama Sunday for failing to pass long-term immigration reform through Congress, but he repeatedly refused to say whether he would overturn Obama's decision to end deportations for some young undocumented immigrants if he becomes president.

"First of all, we have to secure the border, we need to have an employment verification system, to make sure that those that are working here in this country are here legally," Romney said in an interview with "Face the Nation" on CBS. "And then, with regards to these kids who were brought in by their parents through no fault of their own, there needs to be a long-term solution so they know what their status is."

He criticized Obama for "jump in" and implementing a "stop-gap measure," despite the fact that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) had been working on legislation to address the issue.

Host Bob Schieffer asked Romney three times whether he would repeal Obama's directive as president.

2. They know what their status is

And so does Rmoney. Moron, of course he'll refuse to continue to leave them alone.

5. Mitt will let them stay...as long as they all go Mormon.

He'll force them to listen to Donny and Marie mixtapes at ear-splitting volume until they cave in.

7. This means Republican internal polling indicates this is a winning issue for the President.

Kudos to the Obama campaign!

16. So true

Rushbo and his legions of methheads are going to put pressure on Romney to say he'll repeal it. At least I hope he does.

9. Only if Grover says so. Remember, all Nordquist needs is a candidate 'with enough digits to sign...

The bills that are handed to him.'

No thinking or work required on the part of the POTUS anymore.

Mitt will do great in this new spot, probably fill the cabinet with his family while he travels.

Really, that's how it will all work out.

And this is all Obama's fault.

11. Smart move

Smart move by Romney. People know this is a huge issue for Latinos especially, and the GOP is hoping to swing some to their side. It's going to be interesting. Political calculus pushes a progressive cause for once.

14. Truth be known, Romney wasn't criticizing Obama nearly as much as he was criticizing

his own party. It's the Republicans in Congress who have demanded 60 votes in the Senate and have refused to move on immigration reform.

My congressman, Xavier Becerra, is ready to go and has good ideas. But try to convince the delegations from Alabama or Arizona or a number of other states.

Arizona penalizes so-called "illegal immigrants." California tries to legalize those who want to contribute to our country.

The big backlash against immigrants is rightfully against those who come in on, for example, student visas and then grab jobs that Americans need. They are usually legal, but really engender a lot of anger.

It stuns me that Congress has abdicated so much institutional Branch Power to the Executive. Its like The Congress as a body has just decided "Fuck it... We'll just argue about what the Pres. thinks we should do, instead of the other way around. There was a time when CONGRESS decided national domestic policy for this country, and if the Exec. Branch thought something Congress did was out of bounds, Presidents Past would just send it back Veto'd with a great, pretty Fuck You Bow wrapped around it.

23. My backlash is against the manual laborers who put my father and his friends out of work

People wait 20 years after the wages have been depressed and then say "they work the jobs no American would work." My father was damn proud to be a drywaller and to support his family on it. He just won't work the job after the wages have been cut 50% because we, as a nation, did NOTHING to prevent the degradation of the industry. Sorry, but this issue is NOT as clean as many would like to make it.

26. You say, 'Arizona penalizes so-called "illegal immigrants.'" But why? Why don't they just penalize

actual "illegal immigrants"?

15. Nixon Had A Secret Plan To End The War In Vietnam

Except "Vietnamization" failed to end the war there as nearly as many Americans were killed in that war under Nixon as under Johnson.

We don't need another secret plan for immigration or tax reform or anything else. Romney needs to stop acting so much like Richard Nixon. "Transparency" is not in Romney's vocabulary and that needs to change. I would never vote for a pig in a poke so I will never vote for Romney and I can't see why anyone would want to vote for such a flawed man.

It was about 2 months ago that it hit me on why I thought I had see this play out once before. Stylistically, Romney has adopted the Nixon playbook with his secret plans for everything.

Now I'm hearing things will get better under Willard by the "Turn of events."

From his secret mystical plan that will cause a turn of events.
