McCain is just trying to score political points - but I don't see how he can when many in the US want to stay out of that area of the world.

Also, a US intervention would play right into the hands of Iran and Russia - Iran would fire rockets at Israel, and Russia would be more aggressive than it already is.

Funny when in response to McCain invoking all of the women and children suffering and being killed in Syria, Gregory brought up all of the women and children also suffering in Darfur. McCain quickly jumped in with "That's different." You mean because they have darker skin and no oil.

Of course, we have vested interest in Bahrain's autocracy; Syria's, not so much.

They really despised Pelosi' visit there in 2007. We thought he was much less a bad guy then; he was the same as he was now, but if it tweaked *'s nose, Pelosi's assurance that Assad was somebody we should work with was worth it.

A lot don't want us involved in shipping arms to the Free Syrian Army. I'm far from sure they're good guys. Yet I don't know why McCain's utterly nugatory opinion matters here. Old news.

Still, there's widespread support for the Syrian rebels. Just look at the "good guy Sunnis" in Iraq. Ten years on, the amount of persecution of others has amounted to ethnic cleansing, whether it's Palestinian sojourners or Aramaic Xians who were established for centuries before Muhammed was ever thought up. We like to blame America for that. Can't blame the people who actually did it, I guess.

I'd rather not have a similar discussion over Alawites and Christians (or Druze) in Syria, thank you. I loathe Assad. I'd need proof that the Syrian rebels are any better, except to fellow Sunnis.

McCain would have held his "praise" to his closest friend (his wallet), and the GOP would have trotted out someone else to attack Obama for doing so (for spending money we can't afford on a "risky" alliance with the rebels).

I'm tired of bombing and rebuilding other countries. We need to rebuild this country. I couldn't care less what goes on in Syria or Iran or anywhere in the Middle East or Persian Gulf. Enough of this bullshit.
