Sheldon Adelson Is Throwing the Republicans Another $35 MillionThis discussion thread was locked as off-topic by REP (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum). Today at 5:24 PM Sheldon Adelson Is Throwing the Republicans Another $35 Million By Caroline Bankoff Conservative casino magnate Sheldon Adelson has reportedly pledged a total of $35 million to three conservative nonprofits: the Karl Rove-linked Crossroads GPS, an unspecified group with ties to the Koch brothers, and a third affiliated with House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. This is in addition to the $10 million he gave to pro-Romney super PAC Restoring Our Future last week, which brings the amount he's contributed this election cycle to around $71 million (a significant portion of which was blown on Newt Gingrich.) And he's not likely to close the checkbook anytime soon: Sources say he's ready to commit $100 million to right-wing causes and candidates this year, which is something he could do every year for two hundred-fifty years before he ran out of money. 1. Money from people who lost in his casinos.
|
Including money from Chinese people who lost in his casinos.
What else goes on in his casinos? "Shows?" I'd like to know more about Sheldon Adelson's casinos. And while we are at it, I want to make one thing clear. I do not gamble. Never have. Never will. In my opinion, only fools gamble. I'll stick to no money-stakes Scrabble, Solitaire and strategy games. Only fools gamble. So, now the fools' money will be funding the Republican campaigns. Fools' money to fool the fools. |

2. It's all Chinese baccarat money

80-90 percent of his profits come from Macau and Singapore. Sheldon and his wife think they're going to make Israel safe and take out the Persian.

Michael Moore was right: That's what we ought to rename our nation.

10. Haven't been much of a gambeler for quite a few years
|
but the idea of walking into one of his casinos seems entirely out of question. In fact perhaps we should find out what this fool owns and boycott his business. I really don't spend much time in casino's but on the road once in a while. I once in a while hit a Indian casino at least usually they put some money back into the county around them. |

12. You would think that if ANYONE over on that side of this election
|
thought for one iota of time that Mittens actually had a chance to win this thing, SOMEONE would say "Is ANOTHER 35 million REALLY necessary? I think they know damn-well that it IS that necessary, if they want the option even to steal it, let alone win it legitimately.
Let the rich-ies waste all the money they want to save the GOP-er's from their own demographic destruction. At some point, it will just stop working. We Win. |

14. I read that when he was supporting Newt
|
the number one item on his wish (purchase) list was moving the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. I believe Newt mentioned this a couple of times. The fundies love this idea too.
BTW, Sarah Palin gave a speech last week at some trade association for baked goods and delis (really!) and she was wearing a huge rhinestone Star of David around her neck instead of her usual glittery American flag pin. Tacky, gaudy and a little weird, too... |

16. Sheldon Adelson makes Right Online bloggers feel at home
|
<snip>
"It is only fitting that the Right Online conference, a project of the Americans for Prosperity Foundation, should hold its conference for political bloggers in the Sands Expo, a huge meeting and convention facility next to The Venetian hotel casino here on The Strip. After all, the corporation that owns both entities, Las Vegas Sands, is owned by billionaire Sheldon Adelson, a Republican who has turned the 2012 presidential campaign into something of a personal sandbox. “I know the left hates guys like Sheldon Adelson and David Koch,” Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips said as he welcomed the bloggers Friday to their two-day conference, which he said was designed as a counterpoint to the left’s Netroots Nation gatherings. “But that’s OK, ’cause we love ’em.” (Koch, the oil billionaire and anti-tax crusader, is a co-founder of AFP.) Shortly before former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin delivered an evening speech that was part tribute to the power of the right-wing blogosphere and part encomium to the late blogger Andrew Breitbart, the crowd was greeted by Andy Abboud, Sands vice president for government relations. “I welcome you on behalf of Sheldon Adelson and Dr. Miriam Ochshorn Adelson, our owners,” Abboud said. “You are in the largest building in the world, you in the largest hotel in the world, and the only nonunion property on the Las Vegas Strip.” http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-pn-bloggers-expo-adelson-20120616,0,2670991.story?track=rss&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+latimes%2Fmostviewed+%28L.A.+Times+-+Most+Viewed+Stories%29 |
