Rep. Darrell Issa willing to postpone House contempt vote against AG Eric Holder

Source: AP

(AP) WASHINGTON - Rep. Darrell Issa said Friday he is willing to postpone a contempt of Congress vote against Attorney General Eric Holder if the Justice Department turns over additional records as promised in the congressional investigation of a flawed gun-smuggling probe on the Southwest border.

However, Issa says he still has concerns that the number of documents the department says it will deliver may not be sufficient to end the investigation by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Issa had set a contempt vote for Wednesday.

On Thursday, the attorney general said the department is prepared to turn over documents detailing how Justice Department officials came to the realization that federal agents in Arizona had used a controversial investigative tactic called gun-walking letting illicitly purchased guns be transported instead of intercepted in an effort to track them to major arms-traffickers. Using the tactic resulted in hundreds of illicitly purchased guns winding up in Mexico, many of them at crime scenes.

Two of the weapons were recovered at the scene of the slaying of a U.S. border agent, Brian Terry.

8. It means Karl Rove called Issa.

Arizona was one of the places where the Bush Administration pushed out the previous US Attorney there and replaced that person with a Bush-friendly shill.

The Democrats who form their own de facto investigative committee within Issa's little witch hunt produced their own report which placed the blame rather squarely on the Arizona office of DoJ and the Bush-appointed US Attorney, which in turn directly implicates the Republican Party since they have already been busted playing politics with those positions.

Issa desperately shifted the focus of the investigation to beyond the Bush Administration, but it appears to me as if President Obama's DoJ began assembling a case against the Arizonans by roughly September, 2009.

I think Karl has decided it's too risky to try to pin a Bush scandal on President Obama, particularly if the DoJ is delaying the release of documents in order to damage the GOP at the most opportune time. I further suspect that President Obama, who appears to delight in turning the criminal ways of his opposition against them, already has a detailed answer for Issa, one which the Republicans who know how criminal they really were don't wish to come to light.

So the reverse lights have come on, but the truck is still stuck in a Republican swamp. Now, we watch 'em spin wheels until they sink.

2. Correct me if I am wrong but the documents Eric Holder is not turning over are documents

which would be illegal to turn over.

If he doesn't turn them over he is in contempt of Congress.

If he turn them over he will be charged with breaking the law.

No win.

5. "additional records as promised" - Issa BS.

"additional records Issa claims to need" is a little more accurate.

Also, the invocation of Brian Terry's death by these F&F fanatics is sickening. As if the cartels had only this gun walking operation as a source of weaponry. There's not a one of them, from Issa all the way down to a Facebook chatterbox, that can say Agent Terry would be alive today if Fast and Furious guns had not walked.

6. AG Holder is under no obligation to turn them over, and Rep. Issa is out-of-line demanding them.

He's jeopardizing future DoJ operations for the sake of scoring political points in an election year.

Also, I'd like to remind everyone that Rep. Darrell Issa stole (Recursion's) fucking hot dog. Literally, not figuratively. His fucking hot dog. Right off the table. And Part II.

11. Ban guns and the NRA(aka the extremists)and put Holder on the Supreme Court

the vigillantes on the border patrol shoot innocents in the back ping ping ping like that Amon Goeth in Schindler's List did.
I cannot feel sorry for them. Live by the gun, die by the gun.

They should ban ALL guns in America and then there would be no problem

Gun dealers are the ones that would backdoor give any weapon to anyone for a buck or two so they can make money
Guns itself were made only to kill something. Anyone in the cartel could legally buy the guns at any gun store or back door it
as it is done so often.

Without guns the world would be a better place.

Certain parts of America want to go back to the wild west again.

instead of moving FORWARD!

Eric Holder should be named to the US Supreme Court.
That idiot sheriff down there in loonyville says he will still arrest all that Obama just gave amnesty too. That sheriff should be fired.

15. One cannot yell fire in a theater

There is no constitution clause stating an individual can own a gun that can like in Columbine kill in an instance.
Maybe a cannon
(Zimmerman wouldn't be in jail today had he not had a gun, for those free speech lovers of Zimmerman).

One cannot yell fire in a theatre and its not a violation of free speech either

(personally would love to know where the NRA gets their millions they spend as perhaps one of the biggest PAC's out there.
Surely not from the 35 bucks a person fees. But that's another issue.)

btw2-separate of state and church is in the bylaws. The founding fathers knew what they were talking about here.

I see you have a wry sense of humor. Siegfried would approve of having anarchy and Kaos.

Smart and 99 would prefer Control, of course.

But seriously, anarchy vs. totalitarianism is a false dichotomy.

22. Would you believe...

it's amazing how accurate Buck Henry and Mel Brooks were with Get Smart.

but anarchy allows totalitarianism.

(as I have warned for years now), look how Jeb is setting himself up to be the sane republican
or moderate republican to run in 2016. People in the US seem to have short memories and say nah, he is the sane one.

and anarchy is purging minority voters making it easier to steal states, which Isaa don't want to stop but Holder does. All part of the game.

only way to stop it is by voting for the good guys over the bad guys (and none of this they are all the same, because it is not true IMHO of course).

(btw-I don't want you to think I am a friend of authority- I don't like cops and their over abuse of power, living in the NYC/NJ area, you still see a car pulled over and 9 out 10 times it is a minority(especially in NJ on the NJ Turnpike) no matter how fast other cars are going.

19. Of course you can yell fire in a theater - Iv'e been in one when it was yelled. If you falsely

yell it, you may charged.

Of course, "fire" is not the word that terrifies those who would first disarm the population. No, they fear being unmasked with words like tyrant.

14. No doubt you really meant to say "they" should ban ALL guns...

...except for guns used by certain government employees.

Authoritarians are all alike. It doesn't matter whether one is on the far left or the far right, it's always the far SOMETHING and the results of their policies all look the same. Holder on the Supreme Court wouldn't be any different than Grover Norquist on the Supreme Court.

30. NRA behind this issue b/c REAL prob is flood of thousands of illegal guns across border

Yes, FnF was a botched operation and guns walked. But in this video we learn the Big Issue is the illegal flood of guns over the border. NRA wants to keep those guns flowing, apparently. See:

21. but it took a gun(or two) to kill RFK, JFK, MLK, etc.

and the biggest 1968 mistake was not begging LBJ to run again, he would have beaten Nixon
both before and after.

(and then Bobby could still be alive, having run in 1972 and 1976, then Teddy in 1980 and 1984 etc.)

1968 showed how silly it was for people to not back THEIR democrat(democratic) president.
Every time there is division within the democrats, it backfires.

27. bad analogy b/c there was no cover up here! Holder stopped FnF as soon as he learned about it

in 2011. But the AZ ATF kept it up for some months despite Holder's order to end it.

Bad analogies don't work when you know the FACTS. See MSNBC segments on FnF for Thurs and Fri and maybe you'll get the true picture.

26. Issa's own ATF witness testifying said lax US gun laws are mostly to blame for the deaths

and mayhem in Mexico. Issa said THAT testimony was irrelevant and he doesn't want any more witnesses from ATF(!) I guess he didn't like his own witness not adhering to the repuke "narrative" that Fast & Furious under O is to blame.

Also, Holder did not know about FnF until 2011, when he looked into it and tried to stop it in AZ. He received word they had ended the program but that was false information. He finally ended FnF when he learned the prog. was continuing, despite his order otherwise.

This from MSNBC Thurs and Fri. I was watching both Ed Show and Hardball. MSNBC is all over this story and doing a great job.
