Obama administration stops deporting young immigrants
Source: CNN
Washington (CNN) -- The Obama administration said Friday it will stop deporting young illegal immigrants who were brought to the United States as children if they meet certain requirements. The election-year policy change will cover people younger than 30 who came to the United States before the age of 16, pose no criminal or security threat, and were successful students or served in the military, the Department of Homeland Security said. It also will allow those meeting the requirements to apply for work permits, the statement said. Read more: http://www.cnn.com/2012/06/15/politics/immigration/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

How dare Pres O give educational rights to those "brown people" - its all political!!!! Also I just heard that it pertains to 30 year olds and under and they can get job permits, et al., What majority people don't realize although in California I know the Latino community is large we also have many illegal Asians, Africans and Europeans, middle easterners, etc. so this reversal al helps them as well. |

5. This is WONDERFUL news...
|
...from the Obama Administration. As a retired California teacher, so many bright, hard-working students I taught were caught up in this trap through no fault of their own. Facing a future where...no matter how hard they studied and worked and succeeded in the school system...their dreams of jobs, college and living the American Dream were blocked which often led to dropping out from school and/or just giving up on education. Motivation suffered. As a teacher, there was little I could do other than promise them that one day things would get better.
Now these students will see a clear path to success and their dreams for the future. That motivation will carry over into the classroom and propel more kids into college. Teachers won't have to just promise, they will be able to help students reach their goals. This is FANTASTIC news! This is a PROMISE KEPT. |

Is he going to sign the dream act" into law. If not how is he going to be able to make arbitrary decisions without congress being involved. Can he do it with executive order? This not going to go over well especially since he reneged on his marijuana promises and now he is helping Mexicans stay here, many illegal. I don't understand you president Obama.

7. The Dream Act is legislation - this is immigration policy.
|
The Dream Act is a path to citizenship - this change is immigration policy is not a path to citizenship. It will extend a 2 year work permit that will need to be renewed. They will be documented workers - but not citizens. If they are legally documented - then they are no longer undocumented "Mexicans."
And by the way - "Mexicans" are not the only immigrants who will be given a path to documentation. Don't worry - there will be "white" people helped too. |

Last edited Fri Jun 15, 2012, 12:51 PM USA/ET - Edit history (3) My son is in a Spanish/English dual immersion elementary school, and he counts among his friends kids whose parents work in the Embassies of Spain and Argentina.
Those kids are not citizens, and neither are their parents, but they are fully documented and "legal." The kids speak both English and Spanish fluently. There are kids in his school whose parents are from Hondouras, Ecuador, El Savador and Chile, along with a small number of kids from Mexico. My son's Spanish language homeroom teacher is originally from Mexico, and got his Masters in education from University of Seville. My son knows the difference between Ecuadoran and Chilean accents and can point out a European Spanish speaker very easily. Here, the term "Mexicans" is only used to describe those people who are from Mexico, and only in the context of geography and family - not a strata of the population that is looked down on as "illegal." Once when my son was 6 and we were in the car with another family from his school, and he said, "The truck with the Mexican driving it has a cute dog." We all froze for a minute. I asked, "Why did you say he was Mexican?" His response, "He has the flag of Mexico on his back windshield and there's Mariachi music on his radio." We all sighed in relief. |

The US is to end deportations of illegal immigrants who came to the US as children and to offer the chance to apply for work permits.
Under a new plan, those aged between 16 and 30 who have lived in the US continuously for five years would be eligible to stay in the US. The plan, which goes into effect immediately, is expected to affect as many as 800,000 people. The move is seen as addressing a key Latino concern in an election year. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-18460894 btw I duplicated your post by accident earlier but now self deleted. |

I don't agree with this move of amnesty for 800,000 for undocumented workers.
My documented union brother and sisters, my tax paying neighbors friends and college kids are either unemployed of underemployed. Now you think it is a good time to flood jobs market the 800,000 undocumented workers that are willing to work for less then the federal minimum wage? This is a reward to who? president just said in Cleveland the he was the champion of Middle class. we are all middle class and he is stepping and extinguishing the life out of the very people he proposes to champion his efforts for. He is not helping our families, but talking out of both sides of his mouth. I don't agree with this at all it could not come at a worse economic time. what is he thinking? |

when you have a different point of view on Du.
Seems to me group thought is all that is required and rewarded here. The whole point of my post was that all these undocumented workers will now be allowed to enter the job market, "Legally". They will all be competing here with workers who were born here, paid taxes here, own homes here and just want to provide for their family. Snicker all you like but I have done nothing to these undocumented workers, but once they flood the job market which is already depressed, many legal American workers will be competing for jobs with them. Then they will inturn be doing something that is harmful to the American worker. This is nothing more than political stroke, dash stroke. Now close the lid on your box because I just don't agree with you. |

|
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/06/15/us-usa-immigration-youth-idUSBRE85E1DQ20120615
Undocumented Mexican youths who came to the United States as children reacted with joy to an Obama administration rule change on Friday that could spare them deportation, although opponents slammed it as amnesty and ridiculous. "It hasn't really sunk in entirely, but I feel a sense of joy and happiness because I know this is really going to change my life," said Justino Mora, 22, an undocumented computer science student at UCLA in Los Angeles. Mora is among an estimated 800,000 illegal immigrants up to 30 years old who came to the United States as children and will benefit by the surprise order announced by U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. "I will have the opportunity to ... create my own business so that I can help ... my family financially and create the jobs that the U.S. needs," Mora told Reuters. |

39. Southwest Florida activists praise immigration policy change; Tea Party decries Obama's plan
|
Southwest Florida activists and attorneys for immigrants praised President Obama's announcement Friday about the immigration policy change, though some questioned the timing and how it would be carried out.
Ricardo Skerrett, a Fort Myers immigration attorney, said the policy provides for a temporary relief from deportation but provides no long-term stability. Skerrett said it’s unknown whether the young people will become eligible for in-state tuition, which was a rallying cry and sticking point of the DREAM Act. Kathy Jones, an organizer with the Lee County Tea Party and chairwoman for Lee County Patriots, does not think that the change will benefit the local economy. She thinks a chunk of the money that is earned will be sent to other countries. She pointed to high unemployment rates among minorities with U.S. residency. “There’s so many people in this country that need jobs,” Jones said. “I think it’s just nonsense...this action on the part of the president really is political pandering.” http://www.news-press.com/article/20120615/NEWS01/120615015/1082/COLUMNISTS39/Southwest-Florida-activists-praise-Obama-immigration-policy-change?odyssey=nav%7Chead |
