House lawmakers upheld Gov. Paul LePages veto of a closely watched solar energy bill Friday in a blow to supporters who argued the measure would boost the industry and create jobs.
The House actually voted twice on the bill but, despite a heavy State House presence of solar users and industry representatives, the outcome did not change. In the end, the 93-50 vote in the House was a few votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to override the veto from LePage, a frequent critic of Maines renewable energy policies.
?
Rep. Sara Gideon, a Freeport Democrat and assistant House majority leader, said afterward that the majority of House Republicans had turned their backs on Maine workers, Maines homegrown solar industry and new investment for Maine.
An amazing collaborative effort created the opportunity to grow good-paying jobs of the future and modernize our economy, Gideon said afterward. I thank the 12 Republicans who refused to throw that all away and chose good policy over partisan politics.

(14,591 posts)If this is what the majority of Mainers want, so be it.
The funny part is that electricity costs are something they complain about all the time. And this would have lowered costs for them.

(23,867 posts)I'm now hanging with the younger crowd, and I'll tell you, they aren't going to let anything get in the way of preserving their future right to live on planet earth.
So I'm not sure what the biggest threat to these pinheads is: Millennials, or their own delusional logic.
Besides, you know these people have children. So they don't give a shit about their kid's future? Now I wonder just what else they don't care about. Not really.

(581 posts)voters continue to support him. This is the same situation in Kansas with Gov. Brownback who has destroyed Kansas. Voters continue to elect these extreme men to office who are destroying the states. The serious issue is that the Republicans think all the power should be in the states and not in DC. Well we have seen the past few years how many Republican governors have destroyed the state and it people. They are taking there rights away from them.
Voters need to realize what the agenda is of the GOP, Destroy America. The past 7 years have proven that.
