Tired of that pasty white winter skin? If you're a teenager, you're out of luck.
No one under 18 will be allowed to use a tanning facility in Massachusetts, under a new law signed by Gov. Charlie Baker on Friday.
The law was championed by medical associations, including the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society, whose representatives talked about the risk of skin cancer posed by tanning facilities. Families of skin cancer victims also testified in support of the bill. Under the new law, no one under age 18 can use or operate a tanning facility.
"With the number of minors diagnosed with skin cancer on the rise across Massachusetts and the nation, this legislation takes a critical step towards increasing awareness and protecting our most vulnerable," Baker said in a statement.
