New Mexico Senate attempts to slowdown bills in committees

Republican-backed bills that sailed through New Mexico's GOP-led House are facing a bumpier ride in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
Last week, Senate Democrats announced they have assigned bills related to REAL ID, strengthening three strike laws and closing child pornography loopholes to three committees, meaning they will have to survive three separate votes before making it to the chamber's floor with less than three weeks left in the 30-day Legislative session.
Republicans say Democratic Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez is vindictively trying to block any bills supported by GOP Gov. Susana Martinez. Democrats say they are just doing their due diligence at a time when New Mexico's budget will be tight.
GOP House Majority Leader Nate Gentry, R-Albuquerque, called the multiple-committee assignments the kiss of death because it came halfway through the session.
