Israel, Turkey reach preliminary deal to restore ties - Israeli official

Israeli and Turkish officials have reached a preliminary agreement to normalise relations, including the return of ambassadors to both countries, an Israeli official said on Thursday.
The deal was reached during meeting in Switzerland, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Under the preliminary agreement, Israel will establish a compensation fund to address the killing by Israeli marines of 10 Turks aboard a pro-Palestinian activist ship that tried to break Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip in 2010, the official said. Turkey would then drop all claims against Israel.

(36,418 posts)The surrogate war against Iran and its Shi'ia allies is becoming less surrogate every day. Palestine isn't even a factor, anymore.
It's boiled down to a religious war of extermination, and we've taken sides in genocide and are selling most of the instruments of mass extermination and ethnic cleansing. Shame on us.

(2,103 posts)Jerusalem (AFP) - Israel and Turkey have reached "understandings" to normalise ties, at a low since the Jewish state's deadly 2010 raid on a Turkish ship headed for Gaza, an Israeli official said Thursday.
The deal drafted at a secret meeting in Switzerland calls for Israeli compensation to victims of the raid, a return of envoys and the start of talks on gas exports to Turkey, once the pact has been signed, the unnamed official said.

(12,022 posts)And Turkey was a prime vacation spot for many Israeli hikers. I know people don't know or believe that, but i have been to those areas in Turkey where most of the tourists seem to be Israelis, there for the gorgeous mountain scenery.
As a frequent visitor to Turkey, with a husband who has a "Jewish" name, we have always been greeted with delight in Istanbul, by shopkeepers who assumed my husband was Jewish.
