Burger King manager told grand jury of gap in Laquan McDonald video

Source: Chicago Tribune

Minutes after McDonald was shot 16 times by Officer Jason Van Dyke on a Southwest Side street, several police officers entered a Burger King located just yards from where the teen fell, demanding to view the restaurant's password-protected surveillance video, Jay Darshane, a district manager for the fast-food chain, told the Tribune this week.

When the police left the restaurant almost two hours later, the video had an inexplicable 86-minute gap that included when McDonald was shot, according to Darshane....

...The equipment had been in perfect working order for weeks before the shooting, Darshane said. But the next morning, Burger King discovered the 86-minute gap when investigators with the Independent Police Review Authority, which investigates police shootings, sought to make a DVD copy of the surveillance video. Missing was any footage from 9:13 p.m. to 10:39 p.m., Darshane said.

When the video system kicked back on, it recorded two police officers in the Burger King office who appeared to be looking at something on the monitor over and over, according to Michael Robbins, an attorney representing McDonald's family.

"within minutes" of the shooting. Are officers trained to do this? If I was a cop and I wanted to tamper with surveillance video I don't think I'd know how to do it.

I bet those Fucking PIGS who deleted the video are still working out on the streets.

Indict those mother fuckers for obstruction.

It's unbelievable what these Bastards get away with. God Damn Lies & Coverup.

They knew right fucking away that their little buddy was in deep doo doo. They didn't even give a shit about the teen when he was dead, they just wanted to help their cock sucking comrade.

they all cover for their fellow cop or they turn a blind eye. That makes them complicit and a bad cop.

There should be several charged here along with Murder 1. Multiple conspiracy indictments are more likely to stick in a jury trial.

The cops followed little or NO procedure. Just shot him from a distance, no taser use, no trying to talk him down. He was NO threat at that time.

I had heard yesterday that the dashboard cams had video but no sound. At that time I understood them to be talking about three cars on the scene.

But today I heard them say there was no sound on any of the 8 squad cars that reported to the scene.

I've never heard of this problem before. Any idea (besides cover-up) how that could happen on 8 different squad car cameras?

if the police tell you they need to look at the tape after a police shooting, tell them they need a warrant and make sure you have a copy.

A Burger King manager will likely cooperate fully with the cops, no questions asked.

He doesn't want the cops to "slow roll" in response to the next incident in his shop.

You want to delete some footage from the security camera? No problem, would you like fries with that?

they should have no right to confiscate your equipment, or tamper with files unless you are the one who committed the crime.

At most, they should be able to demand a copy.

The same is certainly true for cell phone video.

The shooter needs to be in jail for a long time, after he's gotten a fair trail and been convicted.
