At least 16 hospitalized in New Orleans playground shooting

Source: USA Today

At least 16 people were hospitalized in New Orleans Sunday evening, following a shooting during a party at a city park, authorities said.

The shooting broke out at Bunny Friend playground in the Upper Ninth Ward where about 500 people were gathered at the playground to shoot a music video, according to New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison.

That event followed the Nine Times Second Line parade, which took place earlier a block or two from the shooting scene, Mayor Mitch Landrieu said.

Witnesses told WWL-TV that at least two gunmen fired into the crowd.

if any, or preferably all, of the other 500 or so people there were armed, the problem would have been solved.

An historically violent city with a huge gang problem and a corrupt police force.

10. Twenty years ago, I went to New Orleans for a conference.

We took one evening and went to The House of Blues. My coworker said I didn't need to worry about our personal safety walking down Bourbon Street since he was packing. We didn't realize at the time, but they were having a fundraiser for kids/families affected by gun violence. One of the families they were raising money for was a family where a couple of members were hit by stray bullets because someone thought 'celebrating' New Years meant go out and shoot your guns in the air.

I came back from that trip with a whole new attitude re: guns.
