Isis publishes photos of two murdered hostages as airstrikes intensify

Source: The Guardian

The Norwegian prime minister said on Wednesday it had no reason to doubt that Isis had murdered one of its citizens held hostage in Syria, as the terrorist group dug into its de facto capital of Raqqa amid intensifying French, Russian and US airstrikes.

Images of the dead Norwegian, identified as Ole Johan Grimsgaard-Ofstad, 48, were published in the latest issue of the Isis magazine Dabiq along with photographs of a second murdered hostage identified as a Chinese citizen.

Erna Solberg, the Norwegian prime minister, said the killing was “painful for the family and the whole country” but stated that it did not pay ransoms. “Even if it hurts, we should never let the terrorists win,” she told a press conference.

The Norwegian foreign minister, Borge Brende, said the Norwegian “was harshly mistreated”, adding that photos and videos were sent along with demands for ransom. He said the Oslo government was releasing the information in accordance with the family’s wishes.

It's an unwinnable situation. Let the Arabs fight it out. The more we join in, the worse and more permanent the situation will become.

Both the Internet and cellular networks work in Syria. I've seen videos where the jihadist kill a civilian or are about to, they will call the mother of the victim and taunt her.

Regarding the use of the Internet, the authorities seem uninclined to go after them online and social media. One reason could be they see it as a way of monitoring them online, another reason could be we're really not actively fighting them. Years of US bombing did nothing like months of Russian bombing. If you listen to those in power the real target has always been Assad, hezbollah and Iran.
