Daniel Lloyd Selovich is accused of beating and assaulting the woman, who told troopers she would have rather escaped and be eaten by a bear than endure the attacks, charges say. Selovich has a history of arrests in other states including California, Tennessee and Florida, according to public records and news reports.
Troopers say the Alaska attacks began Sep. 26 in Fairbanks and continued when the woman flew with Selovich to a cabin 16 miles outside of Manley Hot Springs. The woman, who has not been publicly identified, asked for help for medical concerns on Facebook and was picked up by a military helicopter Nov. 8, according to the charges.
Selovich is accused of raping or assaulting the woman -- with whom he was in a domestic relationship -- two to six times a day and at one point threatening to cut off her face with a Gerber knife. Its unclear how long Selovich has lived in Alaska, but public records show he has traveled widely, sometimes clashing with authorities.
A HISTORY OF ARRESTS
Prosecutors in California charged Selovich with sexual assault of an unidentified Redding (Calif.) woman he had just met in late 2004, according to the Record Searchlight newspaper. His arrest in that case came years after the attack was first reported.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) A woman told police an abductor raped her up to six times a day while she was held captive over a five-week period in rural Alaska, with the last attack committed as she heard a military evacuation helicopter landing near the man's remote cabin to take her to a hospital.
The woman said Daniel Selovich, who goes by the nickname Pirate, used duct tape to bind the two together at night and placed a rope around her neck so she couldn't run away, Alaska State Trooper Matthew Iverson wrote in an affidavit.
She said, "it would be better for her to run away from the cabin and possibly be eaten by a bear than continue being physically and sexually assaulted by Daniel," Iverson wrote.
Selovich was arraigned this week on kidnapping, sexual assault and assault charges in Fairbanks Superior Court. No pleas were entered. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Nov. 20. Calls to the Public Defender's Office in Fairbanks, which is representing Selovich, weren't immediately returned.
