Thousands of pounds of pot worth $3.6 million found floating off Calif. coast

Source: MSNBC

Harbor Patrol officers found nearly 8,000 pounds worth of marijuana floating off the coast of Orange County, Calif., on Sunday, according to reports.

The marijuana found south of Los Angeles was packed in around 160 bales and had an estimated street value of $3.6 million, border patrol agents told CBS Los Angeles.

"Shortly before noon on Sunday, May 20, maritime law enforcement authorities received a tip about suspicious bales floating in the water off the coast of Orange County, near Dana Point," border patrol agent supervisor Michael Jimenez said in a statement.

The haul reportedly totaled 7,263 pounds.

Does anyone think that a, "goodwill", donation to medical marijuana outlets is in the making? Just a warm and fuzzy thought for a Monday morning.

Less than 500 a pound STREET VALUE? That's 30 bucks an oz. Dollar a gram? Let it rot in the ocean cause it can't be any good.

Uhhm, I'm just saying....

It would probably be best to burn the stuff to get rid of it.

Due to burn bans, I'll have to burn it in very small quantities, but I'd happily volunteer to take this burden off the taxpayers.

Usually I thought the police liked to UP the value of the bust as much as they could. As in; "Let's see, if we could roll all this pot into individual joints, and each joint could sell 'on the street' for 5$, then THAT means this pot is worth..." etc. etc.

Either this pot is REALLY shitty, or I am paying WAY to much for my weed!!!

It's most likely Mexican crap and was probably bound for states other than California.

This happened last month as well. A friend actually found one of the "groupers" and it was junk.

There is absolutely no reason for the high quality MMJ grown in CA to have been anywhere near a boat.

on edit: sorry about this response. Something weird happened, I logged on to DU and was checking out the front page and responded to this story. Not till later did I notice all of the stories were a month old. Weird. Closed IE and reopened and went to DU and everything was fine.

Sorry for the reply, and wanted you to know the reason for it. It appeared to me that someone had posted an old story.
