Supreme Court rejects Ky. gay marriage case, forcing Rowan Co. clerk to issue licenses
Source: WDRB/AP
The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected a Kentucky gay marriage case, meaning Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis must issue licenses despite religion.
Davis has refused to issue marriage licenses, citing her Christian faith and constitutional right to religious liberty, despite a U.S. Supreme Court ruling.
U.S. District Judge David Bunning had already ordered Davis to issue marriage licenses two weeks ago. He later delayed that ruling until Aug. 31 or until the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a ruling.
Davis was one of a handful of local elected officials across the country that stopped issuing marriage licenses after the U.S. Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide in June. She said issuing a marriage license to a gay couple would violate her Christian beliefs and argued the U.S. Constitution protected her religious freedoms.

(14,400 posts)if she maintains her obstinate position she can be held in contempt. It might be nice to let her pray on it while sitting in the county jail for a little while.

(238 posts)That the claim regarding religious liberty seems to forget that means simply you are free from the state imposing a religion on you? (And why must you attempt to ruin other's happiness and rights trying to impose yours on them?)
One is not free of federal and state laws.
One *is* free to take a job which suits your world view; I hope she sticks to her guns and resigns.

(34,133 posts)The rest of us get to pay for the court to deal with her stupidity.
The county is trying to file misconduct charges against her:
"Typically, the attorney general's office refers conflict cases to a prosecutor from another county," the release says.
The release says Rowan County Government and the Rowan County Attorney's Office cannot take any other action against Kim Davis.
"Kentucky state government is the only entity that can move to have Kim Davis removed as Rowan County Clerk," the release says.

When she took office she swore to obey the constitution according to what I have read. That means she is not allowed to ignore the Supreme Court's decisions. If she does not want to abide by the terms of her office she should resign. She can be a preacher on her own dime and that of any believers that want to support her views. But the tax payers of her county, state and country should not have to pay to support her bigoted views.

(24,688 posts)now the judge will bring her in, and he will "explain to her one more time" before the bench, to explain herself, and when she gives this speech of religious freedom he is going to cut her off, and say what are you going to do---------and she better have a good answer
And if she goes off on some tangent--------------he is going to give her one more chance------------ are you going to issue the documents--------------yes or no-------------simple
And he is going to warn her--------------once-------you can and will be held in CONTEMPT------------are you going to issue the documents
