NEW YORK (AP) — Days after he confessed to cheating on his wife and an addiction to pornography, Josh Duggar has entered rehab.

The ex-reality star checked himself into a long-term treatment center, according to his parents, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.

Their announcement Wednesday on the family's website did not specify the nature or duration of treatment, nor did it identify the facility. But the statement spoke of "a long journey toward wholeness and recovery."

"We pray that in this he comes to complete repentance and sincere change," his parents said, adding they are "deeply grieved" by his actions, which have "brought great insult to the values and faith we hold dear." The couple also said Josh's wife, Anna, with whom he has four children, is receiving "counsel and help for her own heart and future."

In my opinion, this is all "for show" anyway to make it appear that they are doing something. Sending him to this type of facility when he molested his sisters didn't keep him from being unfaithful to his wife later down the road, so I don't think the Duggars can genuinely argue that this will be helpful, but they certain WILL try to argue that. Josh will come out of the facility "a changed man". I can promise you that they will say that even though I don't believe it for a minute.

I think this family is desperate for attention and perhaps desperate for the continued funding that the reality show gave them. Although they insist that they are financially independent, they sure seem to be interested in a continuing relationship with the public at a time, I might add, when they would be wise to circle the wagons and give their full attention to the very real problems that exist in their immediate family.

They don't see addiction recovery as a lifetime struggle but as a one-and-done matter of getting right with Jesus. Last week, the 27-year-old Josh Duggar made an online apology, calling himself "the biggest publicity seeker ever" following reports that he had been a subscriber to the cheating website AshleyMadison.com, whose millions of customer records were recently hacked and made public, but somehow the story became All About Josh.

His admission came weeks after he acknowledged in May having worked for 2 Republican presidential campaigns as an adult, including two of the most priggish, puritan ones he could find (Huckabee and Santorum).

His name has been all over the news in recent months, along with his crazy family.

Here is the short version:

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are right-wing evangelicals from Arkansas. They don't believe in birth control and have 19 kids. Their reality show was called 19 kids and counting.

Josh Duggar is their oldest son. He is 27 years old. He is married with 4 kids of his own. Josh used to work for the Family Research Council, a conservative Republican think tank that teaches traditional values, bashes modern culture and spews hatred at LGBT people. Josh, home schooled and lacking a college education, was nowhere near qualified for a job at the salary level he was paid. But the far right loved his family and what they represented--so he got hired anyway.

Three months ago, Josh was revealed to have molested 5 girls, 4 of them his sisters, when he was a teenager. His parents helped him get away with it, rather than seeing him prosecuted. They did send him away for treatment, at some Christian rehabilitation place, but he never really faced the law. They had him talk to a state trooper friend of theirs, who gave Josh a stern talking to. That same state trooper is now in jail on child pornography charges.

Upon learning of Josh's actions, and Jim Bob and Michelle's role in covering them up, TLC canceled 19 Kids and Counting. Josh was also forced to resign from the Family Research Council.

The Duggars are long time supporters of Mike Huckabee and supported his 2008 presidential campaign. Huckabee stood by Josh after the story broke, basically saying that he had changed and didn't deserve to be judged so harshly.

More recently, it was revealed that Josh Duggar had two Ashley Madison accounts, along with an OKCupid profile. Ashley Madison is a website for married people looking to have affairs.

The latest allegation is from a porn star who says Josh paid her a lot of money for sex, on two separate occasions, which then got rough.

The ironies are stunning: the Duggars teach that people shouldn't even hug or kiss before their wedding day. And yet their son, who followed these rules with his wife, cheats on her and even pays for sex. They teach that LGBT people are dangerous to children, and even said so in a robocall. But they were the ones who covered up a crime when they learned that their son had molested his sisters.
