Obama re-nominates Republican official to nuclear commission

Source: The Hill

President Obama officially re-nominated Republican Kristine Svinicki to a second term on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Tuesday.

The White House sent the nomination to the Senate, putting Svinicki's future on the commission in the hands of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), a vocal critic of the nuclear official.

Republicans immediately put pressure on Democrats to green-light Svinicki's nomination, but the path forward remains unclear. Top Senate Democrats declined to say earlier Tuesday when the chamber would vote on the nomination. Svinickiís first term expires June 30.

ďIíll announce it when Iím ready to deal with that issue,Ē Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairwoman Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) told The Hill Tuesday in the Capitol. ďI donít have any plan at this time.Ē

2. she's "business friendly"

and Obama has ties to the nuclear industry. This isn't a chess move, it's a move which means real money to people.

3. She is a bargaining chip.

Democrats can now have several judicial appointees confirmed with her.

Sheeesh, some people here are more anti-Obama than the teabaggers.

4. Haven't checked rules for NRC,

but he could be required to do so, that is, incumbent pres. party gets majorities in agencies and MUST maintain '2-1' seats.

8. So Majority Leader Harry Reid is a vocal critic of Svinicki and Obama renominates her?

It must be that chess-master thing.
