Bernie Sanders’ populism resonates with 2,500 in Council Bluffs

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Erin Duffy

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders drew a cheering crowd of more than 2,500 in Council Bluffs Friday as the Democratic presidential candidate called for a massive redistribution of wealth to improve the lot of working and middle-class Americans.

It was standing-room only at the Mid-America Center, where supporters snapped up campaign buttons with slogans like “Feel the Bern” and waved “Bernie for President” signs.

The independent Vermont senator has been drawing large crowds and climbing in the polls against Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton.

In an hourlong speech, Sanders outlined a progressive agenda that would raise the federal minimum wage, eliminate tuition for public colleges, guarantee paid vacation and family leave for workers and provide a “Medicare for all” single-payer health care system.

1. But at least 2,000 of those were Hillary supporters pretending to be Sanders supporters

because how could that many people support him.

2. Shouldn't this be in General Discussion: Primaries

If you were at DU during previous Democratic primaries, you'll recall that we filtered discussion of the primaries into a separate forum. We are going to do that again this time around. Here's what you need to know.

1. The Politics 2015 forum has been renamed General Discussion: Primaries and is now for exclusive discussion of the Democratic presidential primaries. Any new threads about the Democratic primaries MUST be posted in this forum. (Note: threads about the Republican presidential primaries are still permitted in General Discussion.)

8. It's a "re-redistribution" of wealth!

We've already had a "redistribution" of wealth. It was called "Trickle Down." It didn't work! The fatcats got fatter and hid their redistributed wealth in hidey-holes in the Caymans, Liechtenstein, and elsewhere. Oh, and what jobs "Trickle Down" did create went to India and SE Asia.

But "redistribution of wealth" sounds so..."socialist."
