Wahington Navy Yard: claims of active shooter today

Since about 7:30, the Navy Yard has been on lockdown. There are claims of an active shooter.
Parts of South Capitol Street (from M to I) and 11th Street SE are closed. Expect closures to expand.
Expect total hassles if you have to get to downtown DC, area military bases, etc.

(135,425 posts)The bases I've been on lately (and I was on one the day before yesterday) seem to be operating at a higher threatcon.
Can't believe this is happening again--hope it's not like the last one.

9:35 a.m.: Police vehicles leaving the scene without sirens on. Homeland Security vehicles remain. Some people starting to leave the streets as well.
9:32 a.m.: Delia Goncalves tweets photo from second scene near 3rd and M Streets near Navy Yard
9:20: Metropolitan Police Department source tells Garrett Haake no shots were ever fired. Initial indications are that loud noises frightened someone
9:16 a.m.: No terrorist threat was made on the Navy Yard
