VP Biden attends Charleston church before victim's funeral
By JOHN MORITZ, Associated Press | June 28, 2015 | Updated: June 28, 2015 3:51pm

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden made a surprise appearance at worship services of the historic African-American church in South Carolina where nine people were killed during a Bible study.

Biden said Sunday it was not his first visit to Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, and that he knew the Rev. Clementa Pinckney, the pastor of the church who was slain along with eight others earlier this month.

Biden received a standing ovation after reading a scripture passage.

The Sunday morning service came hours before the church held another funeral for one of the shooting victims, DePayne Middelton-Doctor. The 49-year-old pastor and mother of four returned to her childhood roots at Emanuel AME Church this year after attending a Baptist church.

This is a man who has not only had to endure the loss of another son but now has had to deal with the aftermath of this senseless violence. So in addition to my own personal relief about the ACA and gladness that marriage equality is the law of this country I'm glad that there was a couple days of good news for the Vice President. I remember the other day when the President spoke he had his, "this is a big f----g deal" face back on.

and he does walk the walk. I think he and PBO must both be exhausted after this week, with such emotional highs and lows.

He's the genuine article. I don't get why some make fun of him. His heart probably beats truer than 90% of the people that criticize him.

He makes gaffes, but damn, what he does in being a decent human being outweighs those a thousand fold.
