Urgent Request to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon

Urgent Request to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon May 1, 2012 To: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon An Urgent Request on UN Intervention to Stabilize the Fukushima Unit 4 Spent Nuclear Fuel Recently, former diplomats and experts both in Japan and abroad stressed the extremely risky condition of the Fukushima Daiichi Unit 4 spent nuclear fuel pool and this is being widely reported by world media. Robert Alvarez, Senior Scholar at the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), who is one of the best-known experts on spent nuclear fuel, stated that in Unit 4 there is spent nuclear fuel which contains Cesium-137 (Cs-137) that is equivalent to 10 times the amount that was released at the time of the Chernobyl nuclear accident. Thus, if an earthquake or other event were to cause this pool to drain, this could result in a catastrophic radiological fire involving nearly 10 times the amount of Cs-137 released by the Chernobyl accident. http://fukushima.greenaction-japan.org/2012/05/01/an-urgent-request-on-un-intervention-to-stabilize-the-fukushima-unit-4-spent-nuclear-fuel/ Read more: http://fukushima.greenaction-japan.org/2012/05/01/an-urgent-request-on-un-intervention-to-stabilize-the-fukushima-unit-4-spent-nuclear-fuel/ Things are about to get really really real here. One earthquake and we are dealing with a catastropy beyond comprehension....

1. I wonder if it will take an earthquake, or are the pools and containment vessel so compromised. . .
|
that they could collapse on their own?

2. Apparently they are about to go anyway...
|
But a quake will hasten the inevitable.
Here is the best resource on the interwebs about Fuku. http://phantasytour.com/bands/1/topics/3012015/posts Kind of a weird place to find it, but one guy is nuclear engineer and another is in the industry. |

7. "Massive radioactive gas covering Fukushima plants"
|
"Oshidori Mako talked at Osaka Bar Association when she asked Tepco , “We see gas coming out from Fukushima plants at night. It looks like smoke. What is that ? ”
Tepco replied it’s water vapor. She asked them again, if it’s radioactive. They answered it is radioactive, and it comes out in day time and night time." from Fukishima Diary...heck of a good source.with videos and pics) http://fukushima-diary.com/2012/05/massive-radioactive-gas-covering-fukushima-plants/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+FukushimaDiary+%28Fukushima+Diary%29 A comment on that page: "If they have gas coming up like that, then that means the core has definitely melted thru the bottom of the containment and is boiling ground water, creating the “gas” or steam which is what it really is, steam, and radioactive steam at that! They are covering up the beginning of a China syndrome event!" |

10. Sorry for the bummer. Reality sucks.

My grown kids live on the West coast, along with other family members and friends.
I worry about them a lot. Glad I am back in the Redneck Riveria,( gulf of Mexico) but if #4 goes, it won't matter. and Japan is burning, and will continue to burn, their radioactive waste at least into 2014. I swear, they are on a revenge kick. |

5. Arnie Gunderson predicted this possibility in March
|
or even a bit earlier, due to the design of the reactor and location of both spent and unspent fuel rods.
And he is not an alarmist. FWIW..there were people here on DU attacked him, and attacked other members as being "alarmist" over the very real possiblitly of further serious consequences of this unceasing slow train of disaster. |
