As many as 1,000 weapons were found at the Waco restaurant where nine bikers were killed during a mass fight between rival motorcycle gangs, police said on Wednesday.
Investigators recovered items ranging from pocket knives to an AK-47 rifle, Waco police spokesman Sergeant Patrick Swanton told the Guardian. Gang members rushed to get rid of their weapons, he said, as gunfire erupted and police moved in to the Twin Peaks restaurant in the south of the city last Sunday.
They were found stuffed in toilets and hidden under seats, he said. One firearm was discovered in a bag of tortilla chips, while a knife was located in a bag of flour. Brass knuckles, bats and chains were also unearthed.

The figure of 1,000 is a significant upgrade from previous police estimates of one or two hundred weapons. Police are unsure of the precise number of people who were at Twin Peaks for a scheduled meeting of gangs and clubs to discuss legislative issues, but in addition to the nine shooting deaths, 18 were injured and 170 arrested. It remains unclear how many were shot by police.

edit: The Waco Trib is listing the total number at 318, which is still a helluva lot of weapons to have in a restaurant, but this number isn't counting batons, brass knuckles, and chains...
Nearly 72 hours after a shootout erupted at Twin Peaks, killing nine people and injuring another 18, officials have found 318 weapons tucked into kitchen areas, vehicles and toilets a lower estimate than was released early Wednesday morning.
Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton initially said that number reached up to 1,000. Police later revised that number downward, and Swanton said officials actually have counted 118 handguns, one AK-47 rifle and 157 knives. Not counted are the batons, brass knuckles and chains, and Swanton said he does expect the number of weapons to rise.

About 120 guns and 160 knives were recovered from the scene of a deadly Sunday battle between rival motorcycle gangs in the Texas city of Waco that left nine people dead, police said on Wednesday as they sharply dropped their tally of weapons found.
Gang members hid weapons in sacks of flour and bags of chips at the Twin Peaks restaurant, where they attacked each other in a fight that was likely set off by a smouldering turf battle, Waco Police said.
A spokesman earlier in the day said about 1,000 weapons had been recovered, but police in a later statement said that number was overestimated and the actual figure was about 320.
Those weapons included firearms, knives, clubs, brass knuckles and chains with padlocks attached to them, Waco Police said in a Facebook post.

(51,122 posts)This is why all guns and their owners should be licensed and tracked throughout their existence.
All guns, once illegal should be destroyed and their last legal gun owner investigated.

(26,580 posts)That place was filled to the rafters with lethal weapons...
(I wonder how the weapons got hidden in all these places: were bikers just casually stopping by over the last few days and casually stashing a gun here, grenade there, dagger under that thingamajig? )
