Text images between Missouri House Speaker John Diehl and intern reveal sexually charged exchanges

Source: Kansas City Star

JEFFERSON CITY — Text messages obtained by The Star reveal a sexually charged relationship between House Speaker John Diehl and a college freshman in a Missouri Capitol internship program that shut down abruptly last month.

The conversations unveil a flirty rapport and suggest an intimacy between arguably the state’s most influential lawmaker and a young woman taking some pleasure in a secret association.

The texts show occasional efforts by Diehl and the intern to meet in person. They range from mundane chatter, about boring meetings and dreading speeches, to the more sexually suggestive.

Diehl declined to comment. The intern, who has hired an attorney specializing in employment matters, told The Star that the text messages were not real. Meantime, she has told confidants that she had an ongoing relationship with Diehl.

I'd like to correct something. Monica L. was a volunteer, not an intern.
When she arrived in DC, she had already graduated from college, and was 21 (or 22?).
She was a consenting adult - as was the Slickster.

We used to have an intern program at American U. in DC, and the
folks who ran it were VERY quick to point out the facts above.

Texted conversations

Screenshots of the text messages between Diehl and the intern are punctuated throughout with emoticons and emojis — cartoonish faces that smile or wink. They paint a picture of playful sexual innuendo.

Her: “You better take care of me.”

Diehl: “Like how?”

Her: “I’ll bet you’ll figure it out.”

Diehl: “I dunno. You have always been disappointed

Her: “I just have high expectations, I guess. Thus far, you’ve done pretty well (an emoji blows a kiss)”

Diehl: “ . I kinda want to hear what you are expecting”

Then, shortly after, he types: “You will be in good hands

At one point Diehl texts her “God I want you right now,” to which she replies “I wish you could have me right now.”

In another exchange, she sends a picture of herself in a bikini and Diehl responds: “Damn girl …”

“Nice”

Shortly after he writes: “I want to see more” followed by a smiling emoji.

Another exchange centered on Diehl texting that he was “Laying in bed looking at your pic

She responded: “Mmmmm why can’t I be there

Diehl shared photos as well, including one apparently taken while he was on a trade mission to Europe with Gov. Jay Nixon. The picture shows the speaker standing next to a luxury car in Munich, Germany.

“Munich is a cool place,” he says.

“That suit and tie combo is sexy and you look great,” she responds. “I see a lot of work is happening.”

Diehl lives with his wife and three sons in Town and Country, Mo.

Democrat that is usually stated in the first sentence if not the title of the article. Diehl is identified as a Republican in the next to last peragraph of the article. When it involves a Republican they almost NEVER identify him till several paragraphs into the article.

back near end of April. Nothing more on that at the time, but, Diehl was contacted about the texts back then. Denied them, until he saw some, then denied again. BECAUSE he was using IOS IM for the messages he thought they couldn't see them! Thought wrong, another power hunger GOP in MO. Nickname was Million Dollar Diehl.

Wonder what his nickname is now?

Or how about "Jobless Diehl" once the honest upright teabaggers in his district glom onto this story.

Or how about "I'm so sorry I didn't mean it Repentant Diehl" (I'm sure we'll see loud and public apologies and pleas for forgiveness from his personal friend Jesus).

I do agree that it's generally none of our business what people do with each other behind closed doors, so long as both are adults and consenting (as appears to be the case here). But when someone builds a career on limiting the rights of others under the guise of protecting Christianity and "traditional marriage", and then we find out that he's been shtupping interns behind his wife's back, then he's fair game. Not for the sex, but for being a raging hypocrite who wants to impose a set of Christian legal standards on the world while living the very same "immoral" life he claims to be legislating against.

If it does not and cannot validate his position on "traditional marriage" (indeed, it appears it actually denies his platform), then this little "non-story" is indeed a story-- as it illustrates his desire to hold his constituents to a higher standard of ethical behavior than he holds himself to.

"This is a non-story, nothing illegal..."
You seem to imply that only illegal actions posses merit enough to be reported by the press. I certainly hope that's not the case, else you are simply unaware of what journalism is.
