Walker In Front Of Pack In Iowa GOP Caucus, Quinnipiac University Poll Finds

Source: Quinnipiac Polling Institute

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is the top dog with a big early lead in the Iowa Republican Caucus, with a four-way scramble for second place and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in seventh place with 5 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

Walker is at 21 percent of likely GOP caucus participants, compared to 25 percent in a February 25 poll by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University.

In the scramble for second place are U.S. Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida with 13 percent each, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas with 12 percent and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 11 percent. Physician Ben Carson has 7 percent, with 5 percent for Bush. No other candidate is above 3 percent and 6 percent are undecided.

it may be good news. Recent history of Iowa caucus is not very successful, as I recall.

Ioway is notorious for picking the wrong people, (recall hucksterbee, bachmann, and other buffoons?) and this early of a poll is more about recognition (Wait, I heard of him!) than recollection (of what they stand for).

Walker has spent a bit of time in the state, while ignoring his own duties in Wisconsin. While there is a core group of teabaggered maroon morans in Ioway, the general population is rather more centrist, even within the Go-Pee. Once they learn just how badly their nay-bore to the NE has done under this kochhead, I suspect that Walker's chances are doomed. I assure you that Jeb's drones are already plotting how to undercut him. There is no political family that is as underhanded, dirty, scheming, or effective at destroying a competitor than the Bush league.

Cause I'd be spending lots of the Koch brothers money on hard alcohol, lottery tickets, and cheesecake.

I think Jebbie with be the nominee. He will do every underhanded thing he can to win the election. Watch out! I hope our candidate is willing to fight harder than Gore did.

That fool Walker could be second on the ticket if he does well enough in the primaries, but he will not be the nominee.

Iowa and caucus states in general should be good for Rand Paul. He has very experienced organizers from his dads campaign.

MARSHALLTOWN, IA—Describing them as significant moments in her life that she would never forget, 67-year-old Iowa diner patron Jane Brandon told reporters Monday she can still remember every single breakfast she’s had ruined by a presidential candidate over the years. “I’ll always recall that first time back in 1968, when Richard Nixon sat down at my booth to tell me how he would help American families like mine while I was just trying to finish a plate of waffles,” said Brandon, adding that she’d had at least one breakfast at a local diner spoiled by presidential hopefuls every four years for the past 12 election cycles, including five separate meals ruined during the 1992 primary campaign alone. “I still think about the morning when Michael Dukakis and Dick Gephardt came in at the same time, and by the time they were done shaking my hand and talking about the struggles of the middle class, my eggs were cold and I was late for work. I didn’t even get a chance to touch my home fries. I’ll never forget how hungry I was.” Brandon added that her most cherished memory was from the 1996 primary season, when she was able to order her short stack to go and slip out of the restaurant before Steve Forbes could talk to her about his flat tax.
