MADISON COUNTY, Ill. A 19-year-old Illinois man who has been trying to sell his car on Craigslist has been missing since Monday morning.
The Madison County Sheriff's Office says Taylor S. Clark's family reported him missing around 8 p.m. Monday. He was last seen around 10:30 a.m. by his girlfriend at a business in the 4000 block of Route 159 in Glen Carbon after he took a final exam at Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville.
Clark's family says his vehicle, a red 2007 Nissan 350Z, is listed for sale on Craigslist, and said he spoke with at least one interested buyer Monday morning about it. Clark's cell phone records place his phone in the area of The Mills Outlet Mall in Hazelwood, Missouri shortly after 11:30 a.m., but deputies can't say if he was there to meet anyone about his car.
Deputies say Clark does not have a history of disappearing or any known medical conditions that could lead to his disappearance. His Nissan 350 Z also remains missing. ... Clark is described as a white male standing 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 190 pounds. He has light brown shorter hair and a full facial mustache and beard.
Anyone who believes they may have seen Clark or his vehicle, or may have information about his disappearance is asked to call the Madison County Sheriff's Office at 618-692-4433, the investigation line at 618-692-0871, or the anonymous tip line at 618-296-3000.

This is important, because this is not the first instance I've heard of this. A recent similar incident did not turn out well:

(12,265 posts)I had some of the strangest people come by to look at it. Thankfully it was in the garage and since my husband was out of town my neighbor came over when I showed it. I mean STRANGE people! I told my husband I would never ever use Craig's list again. I think it is used by nuts to stalk victims.

how they advertise or respond to items for sale.

Protip: selling or buying an item and need a busy, crowded place to meet? There's a starbucks every three blocks, and around here there's usually cop or three getting coffee.

2. Always in the daylight
3. Always with a witness
and most important
4. Always Carry a sidearm.
Normally I'll arrange to meet in a Walmart parking lot where there's lots of folks and (hopefully working) cameras. Plus everyone knows where the local walturd is.
You can get a pretty good idea of the character you're dealing with through texts and calls. I asked one too many questions on a motorcycle a while back, the guy stopped replying to my texts and yanked the ad shortly after that.
Most people aren't out to kill you, but there are several out to scam you if you're an idiot.

HAZELWOOD, Mo. (AP) Authorities in two states on Wednesday were investigating the slaying of a 19-year-old Illinois college student who went missing while trying to sell his sports car on Craigslist.
Taylor Clark's body was found Tuesday night near a truck driving school in the St. Louis suburb of Hazelwood, Missouri, not far from where his abandoned 2007 Nissan 350ZX was located, according to Tim Fagan, the deputy commander of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis and lead investigator.
Fagan said Clark, from the southwestern Illinois town of St. Jacob, was the victim of a homicide, though he declined to elaborate. No suspects were in custody as of midday Wednesday.
Clark, a sophomore engineering student at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, was reported missing by family members on Monday. Authorities say he was last seen by his girlfriend, and Fagan said Clark had listed his car for sale on Craigslist and had spoken to someone Monday morning about the ad.
