Anti-vaxxers go there: Now they’re comparing childhood immunization to rape
Source: Raw Story - T Bogg
In an atmosphere where anti-vaxx activists are only slightly more popular than polio but are considerably less popular than the measles, now comes another shrill blast from an anti-vaxx group which has compared immunizing children to rape.
Yes, they went there.
The Australian Vaccination Skeptics Network (AVSNI) posted a graphic to their Facebook page on Wednesday since taken down with an ALL CAP headline reading: FORCED PENETRATION.
<snip>
And because science is not on their side, anti-vaxxers are now resorting to even more hysterical claims, equating government mandates to forcible sexual assault, which is repulsive on so many levels. But then this is the inevitable logical progression once youve gone from linking vaccines to Nazi medical experiments to then comparing childhood vaccinations to the Holocaust.
What do you have left?
Apparently this:

which is grotesque, coming as it does from people who are not only immune to scientific consensus but now apparently from shame.

(1,539 posts)Why not just list the scientific studies proving vaccination is safe and also who funded the studies?

(21,128 posts)Evidence doesn't matter to the faithful. It's the same with all anti-science groups. Global warming is another example. The people that do this are dangerous and their hysteria leads to a lesser world.

(1,539 posts)The two have nothing to do with each other.
OK, list only two very comprehensive studies that prove your argument and that were not funded by special interest groups; such as health insurance providers or pharma or gov agency with revolving door pharma executives.
Gore1FL
(21,128 posts)So I have to name a study that wasn't funded by anyone including the government.
Makes total sense.
Name a credible study that says vaccinations cause autism. You're the one making the challenge to the accepted understanding of the scientific community. The burden is on you.
If that doesn;t work well for you then how 'bout we simply look at the number of deaths from polio, small pox, measles, diptheria, etc. numbers pre and post immunizations and compare that to the number of autistic children that make a claim it was vaccination related.
Even if vaccinations caused autism, which they don't, the threats for doing without are much more severe.
Vaccination is the logical choice.

(1,539 posts)I think the burden is on you, if you wish to educate the ignorant instead of just calling them names.
If you combine deaths from medical error, hospital infections, and complications from pharmaceuticals, this becomes the number one cause of death in America. So much for real data and logic.
Do you have any logical explanation and/or scientific studies that identify what is causing the epidemic of autism since the 90s? An approximate 2000% increase.
Gore1FL
(21,128 posts)Erich Bloodaxe BSN
(14,733 posts)Well, sure, if you combine a bunch of different ways to die, they suddenly become 'the number one cause'.
But then if you combine a different set of ways to die they'll be come the number one cause too.
So 'combining ways to die' has nothing to do with logic. It's simply a way to actually ignore data.
Don't want to have 'deaths from medical error, hospital infections, and complications from pharmaceuticals'? Stop going to hospitals and taking drugs. And guess what? If you do that, the 'deaths from other things' shoots way up. Because we all die, one way or another.
Does anyone have a logical explanation or scientific study to identify what's causing the epidemic of autism? No. And that's exactly why no one should be randomly blaming it on any specific thing they're afraid of, like vaccinations. Because there's no real study out (I say 'real' to skip the debunked Wakefield study with faked data) that shows any link to vaccinations.

(1,539 posts)Legislation championed by the late Senator Edward Kennedy "the Lion of the Senate" created the federal Vaccine Injury Compensation Program which provided "a no-fault alternative to the traditional tort system for resolving vaccine injury claims that provides compensation to people found to be injured by certain vaccines. This programs has paid out billions of dollars to those injured.

(21,128 posts)Was he vaccinated? Were his children? If so, he didn't contribute to the problem that the poster referred to as worse than ISIS. If not, he did contribute to the problem that the poster referred to as worse than ISIS.

(1,539 posts)20% of Californians did not get vaccinations. There are more CA anti-vaxxers then members in ISIS, therefore CA must be much worse than the Middle East but, in fact it isn't.
Gore1FL
(21,128 posts)The Poster said they were worse than ISIS. It is true anti-vaccination crowd have caused more harm to U.S. citizens than ISIS.
The Kennedy tangent was nonsensical enough. How did we get to the Middle East worse being than CA....? I mean, wow... lol.

(8,698 posts)If there is no danger, then why is there a government funded National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program. "The Trust Fund is funded by a $0.75 excise tax on vaccines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for routine administration to children."
"The Vaccine Injury Table (Table) makes it easier for some people to get compensation. The Table lists and explains injuries/conditions that are presumed to be caused by vaccines. It also lists time periods in which the first symptom of these injuries/conditions must occur after receiving the vaccine. If the first symptom of these injuries/conditions occurs within the listed time periods, it is presumed that the vaccine was the cause of the injury or condition unless another cause is found. For example, if you received the tetanus vaccines and had a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) within 4 hours after receiving the vaccine, then it is presumed that the tetanus vaccine caused the injury if no other cause is found.
If your injury/condition is not on the Table or if your injury/condition did not occur within the time period on the Table, you must prove that the vaccine caused the injury/condition. Such proof must be based on medical records or opinion, which may include expert witness testimony."

And it looked at ~96,000 children who had siblings in the same household, and focused on whether if one vaccinated sibling had developed ASD, any other siblings in the household did as well, and if so, at a higher rate than expected... And confirmed that it didn't happen...
In summary, from the sample, ~2% had an older child who developed ASD, and within those families that had such a child, 7% of those households had at least a 2nd child who developed it... Versus ~1% of a younger child developing it without having an older sibling with it.
Basically a 1 - 2% chance overall... Which to me, seems genetic.

(95,337 posts)It's obvious they have no clue about the real danger of these diseases - about the hundred of thousands of lives that either died or were forever disabled because we had no way of preventing them back before these vaccines existed.
Unfortunately we have no immunization against Adult Stupidity.

(5,841 posts)Any chemical compound injected into a human being has potential to harm. However, these studies have shown over and over that the MMR vaccine DOES NOT CAUSE autism. Any potential harm is mostly slight, and includes minor things such as soreness at the injection site. But for statistical purposes even that minor thing is cataloged as a reaction. So you have to look deeper if you want the full story. If you see a number that represents "harm" that you think proves your point that vaccines are dangerous, remember that "harm" includes such minor things as soreness at the injection site. Ever get a flu shot and felt a little sore/crappy afterwards?
We HAD eradicated diseases such as measles, smallpox, etc. It has been shown there is absolutely no link to autism. Never has been, in a legitimate study. Unfortunately people believed the bogus study that prompted "victims funds" and widespread panic in the uninformed.

Anti-vaxxer? Oh, that just scratches the surface. I want medicine to leave me alone. You can lead a horse to water (ACA), but you cannot force him to drink (USE that new insurance/go to a doctor).
First the children. Next?

Scroll down to the link to see their plan for YOU, not little children. Database? Your medical records not private? Vaccinations at your job, church? "Catch up" vaccinations that weren't around for adults like Hep B (newborns given that) and Guardasil?
I certainly wrote to them. Not just no, but HELL NO. The date for public comments (like they care?) was extended, but people I know kept getting errors when they tried to comment. My guess is that they were getting far too many negative comments from the ADULT population who does not like their rights being taken away.
Would you like to be forced to get a flu shot, and dozens of others you might not have have in childhood, according to the CDC?
I would not use the word rape, but I certainly would use the words harassment, informed consent, right to refuse medical treatment, and if it came down to it, assault and battery.
